It was amazing to see so many EMBA alums and current students support Christine Santos, the Director of Development & Marketing at the Candlelighters' Everyday Extraordinary Breakfast. We had multiple members from cohort 16, 17, 21, and 22.

Candlelighters serves children diagnosed with cancer being treated in Nevada, from birth to age 21. Candlelighters provides family-centered care in which programs and services are available not only to the diagnosed child but their siblings and parents as well.

Cohort 21, December 2023 graduates, had a great time exploring Italy and France during their International Seminar. One of the highlights was visiting Pardgroup in Milan, a fantastic field marketing and retail design company working with global luxury brands. Angela Lee, an EMBA Cohort 17 alumna, serves as the Senior Director of Revenue Cycle Management at Cure 4 The Kids Foundation (C4K), a 501(c)(c3) tax exempt non-profit
organization that serves With a background in overseeing financial projects for BPO companies in India and the Philippines, Angela joined C4K in 2019, successfully reducing accounts receivables and increasing revenues while passionately contributing to the foundation's mission of advancing childhood disease cures and prevention in the community.

UNLV is grieving for the victims of December 6, and we will forever remember and honor those we have lost. The UNLV community is pulling for the recovery of the professor seriously injured. We continue to send our love and support to the victims, their families, and friends during this difficult time.��

Dr. Jerry Cha-Jan Chang was a longtime educator of management information systems, spending more than 20 years of his academic career teaching a generation of UNLV Lee Business School students. Described as calm, even-tempered, and “a mentor of the highest caliber,” Dr. Chang was a “rigorous researcher and a good teacher who deeply loved his students and UNLV,” as recalled by his colleague Dr. KC Tan. ��

Dr. Patricia Navarro Velez, an assistant professor of accounting, had devoted her career to educating the next generation of accountants. Joining UNLV nearly five years ago as a professor of accounting, where she primarily focused on teaching accounting information systems, she was known for her “larger-than-life personality,” colleague Dr. Jason Smith reflects. “ She chose to return to the classroom as a professor to share her passion for accounting and information systems while encouraging and mentoring students who were beginning their own journeys and professional adventures.”��

Dr. Naoko Takemaru was a noted scholar, author, and award-winning educator, who just recently marked her 20th year as a member of UNLV’s faculty. She was incredibly dedicated to her students, having earned the premier teaching award from the College of Liberal Arts. Her colleague Dr. Margaret Harp remembers her as someone who, “was lionhearted in kindness, lionhearted in generosity, lionhearted in humanity.”

At 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 13, near the Lee Pascal Rose Garden, we’ll gather together as a university community for a memorial vigil to honor and remember the lives and remarkable legacies of these dedicated and beloved educators.

Nadine Bentis, the EMBA Director and Cohort 19 alum Franchesta Marbury-Hammonds, were featured guests on the Philippine Nurses Association of Nevada podcast FilipiNARS discussing Business and Nursing. The podcast will be available on Wednesday, April 26th.

UNLV and the Executive MBA program are proud to highlight our alum from Cohort 17, James Taylor! James currently works as a fire protection engineer and cited joining the Executive MBA program as, “a way to gain more professional growth.” Following the completion of the 18-month program, Mr. Taylor spun what he learned as a leader into creating his own small business.

The foundation and skills he learned from the Executive MBA program provided James with one central location to learn about all aspects of business and leadership, which he still uses to this day. Through his connections to Cohort 17 and the advice of past professors, James has been able to build his company more efficiently.
