With students of the Clark County School District returning to classes this week, we thought we'd highlight some of our collections that feature Las Vegas's first school - the Historic Westside School. First as a school for local Paiute children and later the only school Black Americans could attend in segregated Nevada, the Westside School is an important part of our Las Vegas history.

🏫 Historic photographs of the Westside School can be found in the Clinton Wright Photographs (PH-00379)

🏫 Modern photographs of the school can be found in the UNLV University Libraries Photographs of the Development of the Las Vegas Valley (PH-00394)

🏫 We have an oral history on the groundbreaking ceremony of the Westside School (OH-02267)

🏫 We also have oral history interviews with Westside School alumni (OH-02643)

All of these and more can be found on our portal at special.library.unlv.edu

Happy National Go Fishing Day! To celebrate, here are a few fishing photos from the Ward Linqust Photograph Collection on Lake Mead (PH-00084). For many years, Las Vegas resorts offered excursions to Lake Mead. A few of these probably would have been used for profile photos if dating apps were around in the 50s.
