County Road 2 is closed at the Yak Treatment Plant due to another sink hole that was reported to Road & Bridge about 12:00 today. We will keep updating until the road is re-opened. Please do not go past closure the road is being under cut by the sink hole. Video of the inside of the sinkhole in the next post.

Great Job Jimmy!

Congratulations to Lake County’s own Jimmy Romero (Public Works Foreman) who won 1st Place in a backhoe competition at the American Public Works Association, Western Slope Branch, Spring Street Conference in Grand Junction, CO this week! The regional Spring Street Conference brings in Public Works/Road and Bridge professionals from all over the State. Romero’s win earned him an invitation to go to the National APWA “Roadeo” in Atlanta this September to compete for a national title. Congrats Jimmy (pictured on far right, holding is plaque, in front of a backhoe.)

Looks like we will be getting some warm weather this week for the first week of Spring. With all the snow from last week and before, water will be running, and snow pack will be breaking up. This week, Lake County School District's high school students submitted creative and punny nominations for snow plow names. Staff from LCHS and LCG reviewed nominations, and selected finalists for public voting.

From Feb 15th thru Feb 28th the public is invited to vote for your top choices. You can vote once and select up to three of your favorite names.

A winter storm warning is in effect for Leadville from now, January 12th until 5:00 p.m. tomorrow, January 13th. The National Weather Service forecasts 8-12 inches of snow, wind chills ranging from -20 to -36 over the next four days. Temperatures will range from -14 to 20 degrees with blowing snow and gusts as high at 70mph. A special advisory from the Colorado Avalanche Information Center - CAIC is in effect for considerable avalanche danger across the state.

Take time to prepare for the storm: stay off the roads, secure your home, and call your friends and neighbors to make sure they're ok.
