Did you know that beets increase blood flow and oxygen delivery to your body? They increase your levels of nitric oxide , so they not only help improve your athletic performance but can help lower blood pressure since they help widen your arteries, allowing for more blood flow. I consider them a natural energy boost!

My favorite way to incorporate beets into my diet is to roast them (like a baked potato), peel and cube, then add fresh basil, feta, and drizzle with balsamic glaze. Refrigerate for a while and the flavors blend nicely.

You can also juice them! My favorite recipe is to juice 1 beet, 1/2 of a cucumber, 1 lemon, and 1/2" fresh ginger. Meant to be consumed as a 1-2 Oz shot.

Did you know not all calories are craeted equal? Think of your food as information for your cells. Eating a variety of whole foods in many different colors will ensure that you're putting the right information into your body for the best possible outcome. I challenge you to grab a few new veggies or fruits next time you are at the grocery store and find a way to incorporate them into your meals this week. Dont get stuck in a rut eating the same 2 veggies over and over.

If you have any sports equipment your kiddos have outgrown or no longer use, bring it in to Alloy this summer! We'll be setting up a collection bin in the studio. Audra's little man is passionate about sports and giving back and had the idea to partner up with a local organization who will take equipment into our schools and not only provide mentorship and leadership but ensure all kids have an opportunity to play.

Continuing our series on simple nutrition tips to add to your everyday to improve your health is:

Tip #3 Eat fermented foods.

Fermented foods are full of probiotics - our guts have trillions of bacteria, and the more diverse and balanced it is, the better the food digests, inflammation is shed, and our immune system is strengthened. Taking a good probiotic supplement is good, but adding in a serving of fermented foods is even more powerful! Coupled with your meal, they can even help digest the other foods you eat.

*Keep in mind, pickled is not the same as fermented so look for "naturally fermented" or "live and active cultures" on the label if you are unsure (fermented pickles are in the refrigerated section). My favorite fermented foods are:

*Kimchi

*Pickles (Bubbies is a good brand)

*Sauerkraut (it is surprisingly easy to make your own!)

*Kombucha (look for no added sugars)

*Probiotic teas

Last week, we started a trainer tip series of simple, daily habits to incorporate that have a positive effect on your health.

Tip #2: Dont multitask when you eat. Stop, take 3-5 deep, intentional breaths, and chew your food well. We are all too often in sympathetic mode (fight or flight), which slows down our digestion. Just a few deep breaths triggers the parasympathetic (rest and digest) to take over.

Take a moment of gratitude, chew well, and enjoy the food you are eating. You may find you eat less, or at least pay attention to what and how much you are eating more. If your schedule allows after your meal, take a little walk, do a quick stretch, or simply take a few minutes to yourself after your meal. Mindful eating really is a game changer!

End of school is next week! Hooray for slower mornings 🙌 Beat the afternoon heat while getting in activity with our youth strength training program. Your kids will learn proper lifting mechanics, gain strength, stay active, and have fun!

Included is a functional movement assessment as well as nutrition guidance! Let them hear it from us, we all know they'll hear it better 🤣

Quick fixes usually aren't the way to long-term solutions, but sometimes finding simple things to add into your daily routine can pack a powerful punch when it comes to your health.

Tip #1 Drink lemon water in the morning. 

This not only helps with hydration but has Vitamin C and is a digestive aid. This simple practice over time can help support the gut's natural balance as we age, not to mention perk up your skin and can even help stave off kidney stones! The key is stiling with this over time, just making it a habit!
