Drugmakers have raised prices on more than 1,800 drugs according to recently (June 2023) published data. That is the most increases since 2015. The median drug price increase was 4.9% last year, while the average increase has been 6.4% and gradually rising this year.
Drug affordability remains a top worry for consumers, particularly the senior market. About 3 in 10 people don't take a drug as prescribed over concerns about cost (that number increases to 6 in 10 for those over 45 years of age) – some don't fill prescriptions, others skipped doses or sought cheaper, less effective over-the-counter medication, according to a Kaiser Family Foundation poll.
