Lucille Caudill Little was one of Lexington's premier champions of the arts. She passed away in 2002, at the age of 93, having spent at least half her life contributing in numerous ways to the arts in the community and region. Mrs. Little gave $1,000,000 to the University in the 1990s for the express purpose of establishing a combined fine arts library in the old King Library North building. Not long after the Library opened in 2000, Mrs. Little gave another $1,000,000 to the Library Endowment Fund to be used to enrich fine arts collections in the Little Library. Her gift was matched by Mr. William T. Young and the state's Research Challenge Initiative, resulting in a $3,000,000 endowment to support library materials and information resources for the arts. Through her generosity, Lucille Little has ensured the arts on this campus will have excellent information resources in perpetuity. Our debt of gratitude to her is not only for her financial support, but also her indomitable spirit, enthusiasm, and courage to dream.
