Kentucky State Fair
Please welcome Wyatt Banks and Carrie Derossett to the Kentucky 4-H team!
Carrie Derossett will continue her work with Kentucky 4-H as the Extension Specialist for 4-H Animal Food Sciences and Agriculture. Carrie brings a wealth of knowledge to this position. She grew up showing Gelbvieh cattle and participated in various 4-H projects. Additionally, she served as the Kentucky 4-H Secretary from 2005-2006. Carrie began working for the Kentucky Department of Agriculture and American Gelbvieh Association. Carrie has served as the Logan County 4-H Agent with the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service for the past eight years. She has a Bachelor of Science in Career and Technical Education, Agriculture Education Option with a minor in Animal Science, and a Master of Science in Animal Food Sciences, both from the University of Kentucky.
Wyatt Banks will join our team as the Agriculture Extension Associate Senior for 4-H Livestock Programs. Wyatt has deep roots in Kentucky, he grew up on a small cow-calf operation in Cynthiana, Kentucky. As a youth member of Kentucky 4-H, he spent time traveling and competing with the All-Star Silver Team and Kentucky 4-H Gold Team. Wyatt brings a wealth of knowledge to this position, both as a successful competitor and coach at all levels in Kentucky, Illinois, and Kansas. Wyatt has an Associate's Degree of Science from Lincoln Land Community College, and a Bachelor's Degree of Science in Animal Science with a Production Management Option from Kansas State University. He will be defending this month for his Master of Science in Nutritional Physiology from Kansas State University.
We are excited for both professionals to join our team starting August 1, 2024!π€ππ―

Last week, two exceptional 4-Herβs traveled to Grand Island, NE to compete in the National 4-H Shooting Sports Championship. Kelli Booth (Henry Co.) competed in muzzleloading, and Lena Day (Scott Co.) competed in shotgun.
Over 200 youth from 40 states participated in the National Championship, a week long event that included three days of competition.
Kelli placed 10th in muzzleloading silhouettes and 12th overall in her discipline. Both Kelli and Lena represented KY well, showcasing their leadership, teamwork and sportsmanship.
Special thanks to National Muzzleloading Coach, Jared Foley (Russell Co.) and National Shotgun Coach, Paul Day (Scott Co.) for their mentorship and support.

Kentucky 4-H is excited to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the Kentucky State Fair. We invite all 4-H clubs to participate in the t-shirt contest to celebrate this major milestone!
Each club can submit one (1) t-shirt design.
-Clubs should design the back of the shirt.
-The front of the shirt will have the Kentucky State Fair Commemorative mark on the upper left side.
-The design should be family-friendly in content.
-Shirts can be designed with drawings or digital programs.
-Designs should celebrate the 120th anniversary of the fair while highlighting the KY State Fair and 4-H partnership.
-Each design will be posted on Facebook for judging.
The design with the most βlikesβ will win!
Deadline to enter: Designs must be submitted to Dr. Kimberly Schrader by July 8th at 5 p.m.
Judging will take place July 15-19 via social media.

Kentucky 4-H Youth Development honors Juneteenth. County extension offices across the state and the 4-H State office are closed today.
We are hiring a Part-Time Administrative Support Associate I position in the State 4-H Office!
The Administrative Support Associate is a key member of the team. The position provides support by maintaining calendars, facilitating meetings, and providing administrative support. Additional duties include partnering with Extension Agriculture Specialists to aid with reports and other vital program information. This is a part-time position that is located on the UK campus.

Congratulations to the young people who completed the inaugural Juntos 4-H Summer Academy.
The youth had the pleasure of staying in a residence hall on the University of Kentucky campus, met with college departmental staff and faculty from their fields of interest, and participated in community service projects. They also had the opportunity to meet with financial aid and student life officers!
