Kentucky's online vehicle registration renewal portal will undergo planned maintenance beginning at 11:59 pm on Tuesday, February 22nd. through 11:59 pm on Sunday, February 27th. We apologize for the inconvenience.

7/13/21 UPDATE: The AVIS system issues affecting vehicle-related transactions at County Clerk Offices have been resolved. Delays may be experienced as clerks work through a backlog of vehicle-related service requests.

Kentuckians are advised to contact their local County Clerk Office to confirm if they are open and to be prepared for delays. 7/09/21 UPDATE: County Clerk offices are still unable to process vehicle-related transactions. KYTC programmers are working diligently to resolve the matter. Kentuckians are advised to postpone visits until next week if possible and to be prepared for delays. All County Clerk Offices are temporarily unable to process vehicle-related transactions today due to intermittent system issues. County Clerks use KYTC’s Automated Vehicle Information System (AVIS) system to process transactions such as vehicle registrations, transfers and vehicle titling. Contact your local County Clerk office to learn if they are open for non-vehicular business transactions. Online vehicle registration renewal is available at drive.ky.gov. There is currently no estimate for when the issue will be resolved for clerks to resume vehicle transactions. We are experiencing very long lines. Our lobby is limited on capacity so the line is outside. Please prepare accordingly.
The Fayette County Clerk’s office will reopen for in-person transactions on Wednesday, April 14. Beginning that day and thereafter, the office will be available between the hours of 8am and 4:30pm. State guidelines will be followed, requiring social distancing and customers must wear a mask.
Citizens will enter the building from Main Street and be guided by signage and staff to the appropriate areas of the building. The entrance from the Helix parking garage will remain locked to control the flow of people in and out of the building.
Motor vehicle customers will enter through the left (east) entrance. Customers needing access to the Land Records area will enter through the right (west) entrance, and will no longer be required to make an appointment.
Office is on a 2-hour delay for Thursday, Feb. 18. We will be available by phone/email starting at 10:00 am.

Beginning December 8th, 2020: The motor vehicle departments will close to the public.
All vehicle renewals and transfer paperwork will have to be mailed in or dropped off. There is a grey drop-off box near the 2nd floor entrance in the Helix garage.
The office will be closed Wednesday Nov 25th, Thursday Nov 26th, and Friday Nov 27th.
A new scheduling system will be implemented beginning November 9th that will allow you to either schedule an appointment ahead of time or join a waiting list on-site for services.
