Nepali Student Organization-University of Kentucky
Nepali Student Organization is here to represent Nepalese Culture at University of Kentucky.
The NSO team was able to table at the Global Games Event yesterday. Thank you everyone for coming out and helping to promote our organization and country.
Happy Tihar from NSO team! We hope this festival brought warmth, prosperity, and happiness to every of you.
Happy Teej from NSO family!🎊🎊
It brings me immeasurable joy to extend my sincerest gratitude to each and every one of you for taking the time to be with us, making our welcome and Teej program not just an event, but a memorable experience for all involved.
The power of community, camaraderie, and shared moments is truly special. By gracing us with your presence, sharing your energy, stories, and laughter, you've contributed in weaving the fabric of what we've come to cherish as a treasured memory. ❤️
As we step into the new semester, I wish everyone a journey filled with learning, growth, and continued success. May this period be one where we not only pursue academic excellence but also nurture relationships, experiences, and memories that will last a lifetime.
Best of luck to everyone for the upcoming semester. Here's to new beginnings, fresh challenges, and brighter horizons! ❤️❤️🎉
Happy Teej and welcome to NSO!!
We are extremely saddened to hear this unfortunate news. Thinking of our beloved member Thakur Bhatta and family during this difficult time. May you guys find comfort in the memories you have with her.
Although there were numerous songs, poems, and speeches presented yesterday, here are a couple of samples. We are immensely thankful for all the creativity and courage of the members who shared them with us. What a testament it is to our Nepali culture that we have some incredibly talented members among us, not just in the stereotypical academics, but also in such innovative literature. Seriously, what a testament.
Wow. What an evening. We congratulated our graduates. Said farewells to the members leaving Lexington. Welcomed the new NSO officers. And if it wasn’t just the most significant celebration of the NSO so far, we even had so many graduates’ parents with us. To top it all off, to say the food, music, poems, and speeches were all top-notch is an understatement (videos uploaded on the next posts). Our paths will cross again, one way or the other. It’s a bittersweet goodbye, but we’re not going to cry.
And come hell or high water, the NSO will always be here to cheer for you through it all.
The NSO would like to extend its congratulations to our incredibly hardworking graduates. We’re so proud of what you have accomplished, and can’t wait to celebrate with you soon. Most of our graduates have also served as the NSO officers during their tenure at the university, and the NSO would like to thank them for their excellent service and leadership. Whether you are pursuing your future career in Lexington or moving half way across the world, the Nepali Student Organization at the University of Kentucky will always be here to welcome you home.

NSO community is proud to have our social media coordinator and PhD candidate in Chemistry, Priya Karna's artwork and editorial to be featured in the prestigious The Journals of Physical Chemistry Letters as a part of ACS Diversity and Inclusion Cover Art Series. Her cover art titled "Women in Science: From Country to Chemistry" portrays a country girl doing daily chores on the farm who dreams of becoming a scientist one day. She writes,"Through my artwork, I want to show that any little girl can become a scientist if she dreams big and works hard. One day she, too, can make a difference as an individual and in a community, a nation, and the world as a whole." Coming from a small farm town in Nepal, Priya is currently pursuing her PhD in Physical Chemistry with focus on chemical catalysis here at University of Kentucky. And just like that, 5 and a half years come to an end. What an incredible journey it’s been for our men. Our organization is forever indebted to you for your dedication and service to our community. Many, many congratulations, Doctors. We’re so proud of you. Do amazing things with your life, one step at a time. We will always be behind you cheering for your success until the end and beyond. Here’s to Drs. Ankit Pandeya, Surya Aryal, and Khaga Raj Neupane from the University of Kentucky - Department of Chemistry.

Our UK-NSO President, Ashutosh Timilsina presented his talk titled “Prospect Theory-inspired Automated P2P Energy Trading with Q-learning-based Dynamic Pricing” at the IEEE GlOBECOM Conference 2022 at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Probably one of the few times that one of our members has given a talk at an international conference in the last few years, so we’re proud of him! Congratulations, and way to go!
Shoutout to our alumni, Dr. Sweta Ojha for being featured in our university's news article (UKNow) about her research that deals with developing a screening model for per- and polyfluorinated alky substances (PFAS). In the long run, this study aims to lower the health risks caused by water contamination in our community.

Our very own Dr. Prakash Raj Pandeya wrote an open letter to Sagar Dhakal, a young independent candidate who ran against Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba in recent parliamentary election from Dadeldhura. Sagar came out second to Deuba and challenged the longstanding norm of elderly dominating the political scene in Nepal. A native of Dadeldhura – Dr. Pandeya commends the vision and efforts of young politician-in-the-making to go head on against an established head of the state and still garner a significant amount of votes with minimal resources and experience. Here's the performance from our NSO members for the International Day. Sumiŋ Karna, Bishesh Paudel, Ayush Pokharel and Himanshu Mallik performing "Mercedes-Benz" by Cobweb!! 🎸🤘
Our most amazing undergraduates showcased Nepal and our culture at the International day @ UK last night! They put on one heck of a musical performance and modeled in the traditional attire with the national flag. Thank you for representing our country and culture on campus, and increasing the diversity motto that our organization stands for. Keep it up!
Congratulations to our vice-president Raj Neupane for successfully defending his PhD today. His PhD dissertation is titled "Cell-Engineered Nanovesicles for Therapeutic Delivery and Immunomodulatory Applications". Simply put, his remarkable work deals with developing cell-based nano medicine for cancer immunotherapy. We are grateful of your contribution to our community over the years and wish you the very best for your future endeavors, Dr. Neupane!
Congratulations, Surya Aryal, PhD! Surya defended his PhD today with a spectacular talk titled “Development of Fluorescent Based Approaches to Understand Astrocyte Biology in the Context of Ni****ne and Nicotinic Receptor Activity.” We are certain that he will make a significant contribution in the field of science, and wish him all the very best for all his future endeavors. Way to go, Dr. Aryal!
And finally, some pictures from our Tihar event. We had a lot of fun eating sel roti, dancing, decorating, and singing Deusi-Bhailo. Thank you everyone who helped out with everything. It was only a success because of you!
