Come say hi!

Meecko, the library gecko, has a new piece of furniture: a clock tower. And it comes with a mystery. The ceramic art is signed “E.C. ‘08.” Who is E.C.? A quick scan of old Peanut Galleries came up with at least five possibilities, but we need your help in the comments to find the right one.

Years ago, Tawnya Skinner discovered this kiln-fired clock tower in a thrift shop, and immediately bought it for her mother. It decorated Linda Skinner’s bookshelves in the Advancement Office until her retirement. Rediscovering the artwork while cleaning out her garage, Linda knew it needed to find a new purpose and offered it to Union's library. From pottery homework to office art to gecko furniture, this little clock tower has had an unexpected life, but who is the original artist?

Meecko has a similar tale of rehoming. His first owner was a former student, but with the uncertainty of post-graduation life, she didn't feel she could provide the best home for a pet. She passed Meecko on to a younger student. He graduated this May, and facing the same dilemma, offered Meecko to Marcia Nordmeyer, the reference and circulation assistant in the library. Already having lived at college long enough to earn a degree, the leopard gecko made the leap from student to staff. Now Meecko sits in Marcia's office where he helps her greet students.

At Union College, we appreciate all of the gifts that keep our campus running and shining. And though monetary gifts generally have the largest impact (ucollege.edu/give), we think Meecko and his clock tower will bring a lot of joy.
