Through Nebraska Extension, the University of Nebraska–Lincoln impacts every corner of the state, spanning 430 miles east to west, across a population of nearly 1.96 million people.

As an undergrad, Jim Benes joined a lab to conduct research through UCARE. Now a doctoral student, Jim is working in that same lab a decade later, mentoring two Husker undergrads in their own UCARE research.

Officially Huskers. Welcome to the family, class of 2028!

As thousands of children return to school across the state, they are likely greeted by a Husker graduate. Nearly one in four new teachers in the state of Nebraska earn their degree from UNL.

“Our teacher education programs are excellent. I think other institutions have tried to have a similar model to us, but we do stand out in some ways because we have more practicum, especially for elementary education, and we have more experiential learning than any other program,” said Loukia Sarroub, professor and chair in UNL Teaching, Learning, and Teacher Education.

Did you know UNL is home to a lab aimed at better understanding bees and sustaining healthy bee populations? Led by Associate Professor Judy Wu-Smart, Bee Lab faculty and students are making a real impact on honeybees and native bees.

A sweet bonus: honey! The nearly 100 colonies of bees in the lab produced two tons of honey last year. And sales from the honey help support the lab's educational programs and student research opportunities.
