We've got updates! Updates to the Nebraska Specialized Telecommunications Equipment Program (NSTEP) are here. A new law updates the eligibility standards and criteria to allow two qualified residents living at the same address to receive telecommunications equipment. It also allows a recipient of telecommunications equipment to reapply for NSTEP assistance every three years instead of every five years. NSTEP assists qualified individuals who are deaf, have visual/hearing loss, or a speech disability obtain specialized telecommunications equipment. On July 18, LB 262 passed by the Unicameral and signed by the Governor will become law. The new law makes statutory changes to the Grain Warehouse and Grain Dealer Acts. District 3, Commissioner Tim Schram has been appointed to the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) Communications Security, Reliability, and Interoperability Council IX (CSRIC IX). CSRIC IX, is charged with providing recommendations to the FCC to promote the security, and interoperability of our nation’s communication systems. Commissioner Schram’s appointment to the CSRIC IX Council runs through March 2026.

The PSC has set hearing dates for its investigations into 911 outages. The investigative hearings are being held to allow the Commissioners to ask questions and get answers from the Carriers in regard to the outages.
