Through our last days of school students and teachers have shared their talents and progress at contests, public performances, tours, and school concerts! We are grateful for the support of our community and proud of the grit demonstrated by LPS students & teachers!
LPS 5th grade students attended the Lincoln Salt Dogs Game yesterday afternoon. It was a beautiful day and two students from every school participated in the first All-Star Choir singing the National Anthem under the direction of Julie Dohmen! Thank you to all LPS general music teachers for preparing students for this event!
On April 27th, this incredible team of Tri-M officers hosted the 6th annual LPS Music Festival. Through their efforts along with our talented performers, supportive volunteers, and audience, we were able to raise $2,260.56 for LPS Music! This is a record amount for our event and will be used to purchase new musical instruments for Don Sherrill and Nuernberger music programs. Thank you to everyone who joined us for this year's Music Festival - we can't wait to see you next year!

Come to the 6th Annual LPS Music Festival at Lincoln East this Saturday, April 27th from 4:00-8:15 pm! The event features student performers from 8 LPS schools, plus PANgea, Los Mariachis de la Ciudad Estrella, and 52nd Street Jazz! Concessions and a silent auction are also available. This is a fun, family-friendly evening that you won't want to miss - come anytime!
Students in Mr. Josh Neumann's class at Nuernberger Education Center are exploring the creative process through instruments and found sounds! Students were seen today working together, collaborating and problem solving to design and record a personal creation! Students are working toward using their creation as a soundtrack to complement animation and cinema. It's wonderful to see the creative projects and learning that is taking place in LPS music classrooms!
Thank you to the Meadowlark Music Outreach Program and Dr. Hans Sturm of UNL for bringing alternative music styles and practice with improvisation to the orchestra classrooms of LPS! An extended learning opportunity provided a number of students to work with professional jazz violinist Scott Tixier and his rhythm section. Students applied their improvisation skills as a whole group ensemble and had opportunities to solo with the group!
Two groups from LPS participated in the NSBA State Jazz Festival on April 11th and 12th. The Pound Middle School Jazz Ensemble took home a Superior rating and received 3rd overall in the middle school division. Lincoln High School Big Band took home a Superior rating and received 2nd in the class 5A division. Congratulations on a job well done!
Congratulations to Mr. R.J. Metteer, Southeast High School Band Director, for being recognized by LPS for receiving the 2024 Duane Johnson Distinguished Service Award from the Nebraska State Bandmasters Association! Mr. Metter has created and maintained a positive culture and quality program for nearly 20 years at LSE, inspiring several teachers to pursue a degree in music education. We are proud to have Mr. Metteer in LPS!
Congratulations to Mr. Mike Robb, Irving Middle School Vocal Director, for being recognized and awarded the 2024 Scottish Rite Educator of the Year Award! Through music education Mr. Robb has inspired and touched the lives of students for more than 20 years! This is a tremendous honor for any teacher and we are proud to have him in the LPS Music Department!

This evening Lincoln North Star band director Joe Albright was honored by the Boy Scouts of America. He received the Elbert K. Fretwell Outstanding Educator Award. “This esteemed award, acknowledges teachers, who illuminate the path of learning, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of their students.” -Boy Scouts of America
Students of PANgea Prep (grades 6-8) and PANgea (grades 9-12) bring their focus and passion on Saturday mornings to refine their steel drum and ensemble skills.
Under the direction of Celeste Ditter, LPS middle school students came together for a day full of learning and fun! at the LPS Middle School Vocal Festival daytime clinic students worked on improving performance, skills and vocal technique. They combined with Lincoln High vocal students for a final combined piece at the evening performance, leaving students and audience members buzzing!
Dallas Brass worked with band students in small groups and ensembles at Lincoln East for a clinic and in preparation for a concert this evening. The concert will include two feature pieces with members of the East High Band. Tickets are now on sale to the public for a performance by the Dallas Brass on January 18th at 7:00 pm in the Lincoln East Auditorium. The theme of the program, American Musical Journey, will sample American music history from the time of George Washington to the present day. Tickets are $10 and limited seating is still available. Last night Park Middle School and Lincoln Northwest Orchestras combined on stage in concert at LNW. Both groups played separated and together. It was a great concert!
Maxey beginning and advanced orchestra students performed in a concert for their peers today ending in an all school sing-along!
Students in the Adams Elementary Advanced Orchestra shared their talents with families and shoppers at Barnes and Noble Bookstore last Thursday. Students were proud of their performance for families and shoppers alike!
