ARORA is the Arkansas Regional Organ Recovery Agency. We restore lives!

ARORA's mission also includes providing accurate information about the donation process and to encourage Arkansans to register to become organ, tissue and eye donors.

African Americans make up a disproportionate percentage of people in need of organ transplants. More than 30,000 African American patients are waiting for organ transplants, followed by about 22,000 Hispanic and Latino patients. Minoritized groups make up about 60% of people on the transplant waiting list, but are only about 30% of organ donors. Weโre working to change that! www.arora.org/minorities-roles-in-organ-donation/.

A national system matches available organs with patients on the waiting list based on a number of factors. The average wait time for organs is three to five years, with more than 100,000 patients currently on the waitlist. Want to help shorten their wait? Register as an organ, eye and tissue donor at arora.org/donatelife/.

Charlyce was diagnosed with kidney failure when she was just 16 years old, so she could never experience a โnormalโ high school experience, as she had to undergo dialysis 3 days a week. Thanks to the generosity of a 17-year-old registered donor, Morgan, Charlyce received a kidney transplant that allowed her to live a normal life. Since her transplant, singer-songwriter Charlyce has produced many albums and books and spends a lot of her time volunteering with OurLegacy. Unfortunately, in 2019, Charlyceโs kidney began to fail, and she had to start dialysis treatments again. In May 2023, Charlyce received her second kidney from a generous donor and hasnโt looked back. She serves her community through her non-profit work by providing resources, financial support, and other help to patients in renal failure, their families, and other kidney recipients. ๐๐

August is National Multiethnic Donor Awareness Monthโ a collaborative effort to save & improve the quality of life of diverse communities by creating a positive culture for organ, tissue, and eye donation. Why is this month needed? 60% of national transplant waiting list patients are from multicultural communities. The need for donation and transplant is more pronounced in minority communities where disproportionately higher rates of diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease contribute to organ failure, especially kidney failure. You can find resources to share and read more at DonateLife.net๐๐
