Happy World Teacher’s Day!
“The best teachers I have had – and I have been lucky enough to have had many good ones – have consistently taught me not only the stored-up illuminations of their minds, but inevitably something about teaching itself. And to whatever extent I am today a teacher, in whatever unorthodox ways, I owe this overwhelming urge to share my ideas with others to those very teachers. I have learned from them to suggest the profound meanings of work to others, and to foster the pe*******on of beauty."
-Leonard Bernstein, “Charge to the Seniors”, Rockford College, June 5, 1966

Dearest CSULB Alumni and Friends,
As I am sure you have heard by now, our beloved Dr. Carolyn Bremer passed away on Sunday, September 2nd. Her memorial will be this Friday, September 21 at 10 AM in the Carpenter Center. I hope you will consider attending if you are in town and can be there. She touched so many of your lives in incredibly positive ways, and this will be a very special gathering of her family, friends, students, and faculty members.
Many of you have asked, "Is there anything I can I do?" Besides attending, there are four ways you can help:
1. Please contribute food to the reception. We're planning a fantastic pot-luck with great food and drink. To be sure we don't have 300 bags of chips (and no salad or bread), Dr. Palkki and Dr. Thies have arranged this:
https://www.PerfectPotluck.com/ESIY5115
2. If you have performed Morten Lauridsen's Soneto de la Noche or Jake Runestad's Let My Love Be Heard with the Chamber Choir, we will be rehearsing at 9:00 AM in the Choir Room. It would be wonderful if you could join us. We'll have plenty of copies of music.
3. If you would like to join us in singing Graeme Langager's Irish Blessing, we will rehearse that at 9:30 in the CPAC. Please come in through the stage door in back. If you can't make it that early, but are still going to be at the Memorial, just stand and sing with us at the end.
4. Finally, if you would like to make a donation, Dr. Müller Stosch will be talking about a new fund for CSULB students in need in Dr. Bremer's name, and kicking of an online drive at the Memorial. I'll send you more information as I have it.
I hope to see you. I miss each and every one of you and wish you joy, health, success and, mostly, love.
