This remarkable achievement is a testament to the dedication of our youth, staff, and community supporters. This grant will empower opportunity youth in the West San Fernando Valley by providing vocational training, support to earn high school diplomas, and pathways to post-secondary education and career placement. Reflecting on a memorable day at the Canoga Block Party! 🎉 It was a joy to engage with our vibrant community and spread our values of resilience, unity, transformation, and hope. A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by our table and joined in the fun, especially the little artists at our drawing station! 🎨

Our first-ever Parent Social was one to remember! Parents came out feeling supported, equipped, and excited to dive deeper into their children’s programming. If you have a participant in the GRYD Prevention program and you missed this one, we’ve got you covered. Our next Parent Social is happening on May 24th from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm. If you’re a parent and want to build a better relationship with your child, Parent Social is where you want to be.

To join us next time, enroll your 10 to 15-year-old in our GRYD Prevention program. The vision of GRYD Prevention is to create communities that are healthy, peaceful, and thriving through gang prevention and diversion services. GRYD Prevention is designed to reduce anti-social tendencies, impulse risk-taking, negative peer influence, delinquency, substance use, and more through positive youth development and family support.

Cesar Chavez significantly advanced labor rights for farm workers as a co-founder of the United Farm Workers union, employing nonviolent protests, strikes, and boycotts to highlight and improve their conditions. His legacy endures as a powerful example of peaceful resistance and advocacy for justice and equality. In honor and commemoration of Cesar Chavez, ACE will be closed on Monday 4/1/24.

We had the privilege of hosting The Amity Foundation recently at our Community Violence Intervention building and we wanted to share our appreciation for them taking the time to visit. We're so grateful for the partnership and excited about the collaboration ahead!

This weekend, ACE had the opportunity to participate in the Taxco Theatre grand opening! We were honored to be able to showcase the artwork of Joe Tovar and his Mighty Markerz program at the opening and we can’t wait for more collaborations in the future. ACE's four main principles are Resilience, Unity, Transformation, and Hope--RUTH, in honor of our founder's grandmother, an immigrant who fought prejudice to lift up not only herself, but her community. When we get to empower our community through the work we do at ACE, we honor all of those who came before us, like Ruth, like Dr. King, who fought for a world that brought us together not in spite of, but because of our differences. We are grateful to be a safe space for community members and to shine a light on the next steps of their staircase, whether it be continuing their education, re-entering the workforce after incarceration, or gathering skills to be more prepared for the future as an individual or a family. We're blessed to honor Dr. King's legacy through service every day.

With a heavy heart, ACE shares the news that this past weekend, one of our recent graduates, Kimberly Ayala Rodriguez, passed away in a car accident. Kim began her journey with RUTH YouthBuild in 2018, and after taking a couple of years off due to COVID, she returned to complete her studies and graduated as a Policy Action Council member in June of last year. Kim was a wonderful mother to two young children, a mentor and example to younger participants, and such a sweet soul for all of those who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
