From the LATimes: "Organizations that lobby for climate action score legislators on their support for climate-friendly bills. California Environmental Voters gave Rubio a 33% for the 2023 legislative session โ down from 83% in 2017, her first year in the Legislature.
'The average score of a Democrat who accepted oil money is 66%,โ said Melissa Romero, a legislative advocate for California Environmental Voters. โThe average score of a Democrat who did not take oil money is 96%. https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2024-07-24/as-academia-digs-deep-into-homelessness-the-findings-are-grim-but-with-signs-of-hope
๐ฃ We MUST address the social issues leading to someone being unhoused, including lack of affordable housing, high cost of living, lack of accessible mental health and substance use disorder treatment, and lack of community resources.
From Los Angeles Times: "Overall, 45% of the people interviewed in the three neighborhoods said they had chronic physical health conditions and 56% said they had chronic mental health conditions. Fifty-two percent said they had been living on the street for three years or longer, slightly down from 57% in Randโs 2022 report.
'The fact that we see more than half our sample reporting being continuous on the streets for more than three years and around 75% for one or more years suggests ... there may be more work to do to make the system more responsive to various measures of acuity,' Ward said in a briefing on the report."

California's Prop. 47 was passed by voters in 2014, and it WORKS ๐ฃ! Now, a November ballot measure (Prop. 36) threatens to roll back our progress.
โญ๏ธ Prop 47 helps divert money from incarcerating lower-level drug users and thieves and redirects โก๏ธ it to reentry and rehabilitation programs.

"The state Department of Finance had withdrawn its support for the standards just as they were about to be approved in March, noting that the rules would cost prisons and jails billions of dollars. To salvage the regulations, the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health, known as Cal/OSHA, excluded such facilities from the standards."
