Hiding the problem does not SOLVE the problem.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿฝ A new study by Rand Corp. found that cleanups of encampments of unhoused people do not have long-term effects on the number of unhoused people.

https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2024-07-24/as-academia-digs-deep-into-homelessness-the-findings-are-grim-but-with-signs-of-hope

๐Ÿ“ฃ We MUST address the social issues leading to someone being unhoused, including lack of affordable housing, high cost of living, lack of accessible mental health and substance use disorder treatment, and lack of community resources.

From Los Angeles Times: "Overall, 45% of the people interviewed in the three neighborhoods said they had chronic physical health conditions and 56% said they had chronic mental health conditions. Fifty-two percent said they had been living on the street for three years or longer, slightly down from 57% in Randโ€™s 2022 report.

'The fact that we see more than half our sample reporting being continuous on the streets for more than three years and around 75% for one or more years suggests ... there may be more work to do to make the system more responsive to various measures of acuity,' Ward said in a briefing on the report."

California's Prop. 47 was passed by voters in 2014, and it WORKS ๐Ÿ“ฃ! Now, a November ballot measure (Prop. 36) threatens to roll back our progress.
