More than an office space, Universal Music Publishing Group’s new headquarters offers a unique experience each day.

The reception desk features a transparent glass wall imbedded with LED lights that come to life with music, images and scrolling song lyrics. When the images stop, you can see through the glass to the two-story atrium beyond.

Performance and display galleries highlight the company’s rich musical history and ever-growing roster of new artists. The new workspace offers a variety of lounges, zoom rooms, and reconfigurable conference rooms for use by a mobile workforce. Oversized industrial doors swing outward for a seamless transition onto patios. From an upper floor terrace, you can feel the breeze coming off the Pacific Ocean.

Our public libraries are essential community resources. Now that information is exponentially available, the public library’s mission has changed from a simple repository to a place where experts (librarians) can help winnow the flood of information and disinformation and help curate it into knowledge. And our libraries are becoming more of a place that functions as a community center, where a greater variety of learning experiences, cultural resources, creative making, and community interaction take place.

Our team was thrilled to celebrate AltaSea at the Port of Los Angeles with yesterday's ribbon cutting event for the Center of Innovation at Berth 58!

AltaSea at the Port of Los Angeles will ultimately be a net-positive innovation campus designed as a place where people are immersed in an urban marine environment and where elements of the buildings, landscape, and public space become teaching tools.

The overall site is conceived as an instructive, interpretive experience focused on marine ecology, where physical environments are designed to render sustainable water, energy, landscape, and material strategies visible to all. Today, with the opening of the first phase at Berth 58, marks an exciting milestone for positioning AltaSea as a leader in supporting the growth of the Blue Economy.

The Los Angeles Conservancy has recognized Gensler's work on The Egyptian Theatre with the Conservancy Chqir's Award!

The Egyptian Theatre opened in 1922, offering a lavish experience for Hollywood audiences. Introducing the original red carpet, it was a fixture of Hollywood’s Golden Age.

Recently Gensler finished restoration work for the theater, addressing new program requirements, accessibility, and a more thoughtful integration of Egyptian cultural references. Some of these references include gold-finished papyrus that crown the main gate and customized floor pattern that mimic the lines of falcon wings.

Marlin Equity Partners had a clear vision for their new headquarters -- a space that epitomizes modernity, fosters innovation and contains inspiration around every corner.

Harnessing the beauty of Hermosa Beach, the two-story lobby is flooded with sunlight, breathing life into the space. The second-floor lounge and boardroom are hubs for collaboration. And the amenity-rich indoor-outdoor spaces blend seamlessly, offering employees a chance to work next to lush greenery and the refreshing sea breeze.

We’ve been exploring the potential for rethinking designed lifespan of the buildings we design.
How can we make better use of the embodied carbon in our built environment by extending the life of the most carbon-intensive elements of office buildings? How can we design offices that plan for future uses and adaptations, rather than just the way we work today? Instead of planning only 60 years in advance, what would it look like if we designed an office building for 600 years?

3 trends in urban planning that will shape how we live in the endemic-COVID era 10/18/2021

"Planners are integrators by nature and there is a huge opportunity for team leaders in the design and strategy professions... By gathering inputs and trust from the communities we serve we can uniquely drive the design process. With examples, here are some interesting trends that will continue to inform our planning practice," - Nate Cherry, Gensler Director of Urban Planning. Read more on Rice University's blog below.

3 trends in urban planning that will shape how we live in the endemic-COVID era It is now clear that the pandemic will not be behind us anytime soon. The pandemic variants and skepticism over the vaccine have made the potential for herd immunity (requiring a very high vaccination rate globally) difficult if not impossible to attain. This means that we are probably going to have...
