A fantastic way to honor Celia!
She died not ever being able to visit her family in Cuba, but was able to visit the Guantanamo base. I was told by her dear friend and publicist Omer Pardillo that on that particular trip, Celia went to the edge of the base and reached under the fence to grab a handful of dirt from the "Cuban" side. She brought home that handful of dirt and it is buried with her. She was a special lady - our Celia!

It's a little long; but you will get a pretty good glimpse of what Cuba used to be, all while listening to some fantastic Cuban music - enjoy! Big thank you to the producer of this beautiful video!!!

Some gave all indeed! Of the 4,414 Allied troops killed on D-Day, 2,501 were Americans and today we honor and remember all of the fallen. D-Day's "Operation Overlord" helped to free Europe from the evils of Hi**er and his N**i army.

We received the sad news that another pillar of our exile community in Los Angeles has passed. Aleida Garces was born in Havana in 1937 and was a soft-spoken, talented, and very caring member of our community. She was the wife of Luis Garces who was one of the founders of the Circulo Manzanillero. She and Luis married in 1956 and came to the US in 1961. Besides being a loving wife and mother, Aleida was also an entrepreneur and a very talented florist. She and her business partner Ondina De Varona were the owners of Alion Flowers in Lennox. Aleida and Ondina were the go to florists for the Cuban Community and were responsible for decorating many weddings and parties for us Cubans here in the LA area. They were also the dynamic duo and driving force of Sociedad Jose Marti's Debutante Ball, which was for many years the highlight of the Cuban social scene in Los Angeles. They made it possible for many Cuban young girls to be presented into society and they still hold a very special place in the hearts of all of the young ladies who participated in those Debutante Balls. Unfortunately those days are long gone; but the memories that Aleida and Ondina made, live on in our hearts and minds.
Our most sincere condolences to Aleida's children, Iraida(Yayi), Teresa, and Gus(Kiko) as well as the rest of her family. To them I say: your Mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother was a very special lady who will be missed by all of us who knew and loved her.
I am sure that Aleida is now reunited with her husband Luis and have no doubt she and Ondina are up there planning fabulous events in Heaven!
May she Rest in Eternal Peace...

Our Story
Here is a very simple description of who we are. We are of Cuban Heritage, so we love baseball, boxing and ballet. Quite a mixed up bunch, but hey, so are we. Our love affair with the Dodgers goes back to our parents time when they were the Brooklyn Dodgers but now that they have 6 Cubans playing in their different teams we love them even more! So here on this page we celebrate. We celebrate the Dodgers, the United States, freedom and life because our history has taught us to do so. If you feel the same way, then please give us a "like"!
