Curtis Schnell directed one episode of "Crossing Jordan," on which he was production designer for every episode over its entire run. His episode was entitled "D.O.A" (Season 6 Episode 16) and featured the B-story about Howard the Magnificant and Stan. Tony Mouleart played Stan and Sean Moran played Howard the Magnificent.
I remember that he was the happiest he'd ever been in his career directing that episode, he made a point of asking advice from every department about how to get what he wanted, and he didn't sleep at all for two weeks. He said that Tony and Sean were delightful to work with.

It's ON! Estate Sale is this weekend starting tomorrow, Saturday 9/14 through Monday 9/16 from 9-2 each day. Joe and Julie of Pomelo Estate Sales are handling everything for me... It's TOO HOT 🔥! It's SO HOT that Julie and Joe have asked me to postpone my Estate Moving Sale until next weekend, beginning Saturday 9/14 and ending Monday 9/16. Same hot hours: 9 am to 2 pm. Stay cool and safe, stop by on the 14th :) I will post the new link once it's up.

As many of you know, I am in the process of downsizing and adjusting my lifestyle following the passing of my beloved spouse. To help with this transition, I will be holding an estate sale next weekend.

The sale will be open to the public from Saturday, September 7th, through Monday, September 9th, with hours each day from 9 AM to 2 PM. There will be a variety of items available, including many original artworks by Curtis Schnell. The estate agents, Joe and Julie of Pomelo Estate Sales, will manage everything. I am impressed by their astounding expertise and have found them very supportive during this time. Although LaFayette and I will not be present at the sale personally, I trust Joe and Julie will take excellent care of everything.

Yes, I'm OK for all my non-California family and friends. Around noon today, there was a 4.6 earthquake which felt like a large dumptruck sped over the speed bump in front of my home too fast. Dog was unnerved, but no damage and I didn't drop my sandwich or my adult libation :-) In fact, there have been 13 more earthquakes since that one at 12:20 pm and 51 in the last 24 hours. We're good.

As part of the summer purge, I'm opening old boxes of paperwork, scanning them if relevant, shredding, and discarding. Slow, tedious, and cathartic. In one of my documentation classes, a list of actual doctor's notes in patient charts. Here are a few of the
worst:
1. Re**al exam revealed a normal-sized thyroid.
2. The patient had waffles for breakfast and anorexia for lunch.
3. The patient has no past history of suicides.

Today is Curtis Schnell's birthday. He would have been 71. It's the second one I've celebrated since he left the planet, and it's hitting me harder this year. I think that's the nature of complex grief and the deepest love. A patient left flowers for me to find this morning in the front nasturtium garden. One year, Curtis built me a backyard patio deck for my birthday, so LaFayette and I watched the morning songbirds while I had coffee. The cake sponge is cooled, the coconut caramel frosting is cooling, and the chocolate buttercream is ready to go for the famous Curt Schnell German chocolate cake. I'm going to open the champagne gifted to him for his final birthday and have a mimosa with fresh-squeezed orange juice from the tree he nurtured and cursed for the last 15 years. I have all the ingredients ready for his favorite german potato salad and shaved brussels sprouts slaw. Perhaps a daily fare of cake, potato salad, and mimosas may not be oh-so-healthy for my body, but my spirit is happy for the indulgences as a support system for today's tears. We've now come full circle.

Many of my patients have already heard that my spouse Curtis Schnell suffered a massive stroke on Monday. He is not expected to survive. I appreciate all your good thoughts and prayers, and I hope you understand that I'm going to take some time off from treating patients so I can help him transition peacefully and begin the healing journey for myself.

I sent out an e-blast regarding my intention to conform to state law regarding Covid vaccinations/testing in health facilitites today. I got a little bit of hate mail back, but I'm weathering it well. Both of the vile responses were from patients I haven't seen for 9 years.
