Love the Skin They Are In: Fostering Healthy Racial Identity Development in the Young Child with Keelah Helwig.
Offered by WECAN (the Waldorf Early Childhood Association of North America)
Children as young as 3 months begin to notice race and by two years old, they are recognizing, exploring, and asking questions about the differences between themselves and others. We know that children thrive in loving environments where they are surrounded by parents and caregivers who both see and celebrate them. In this parent evening, we will explore what every adult can do to foster a school or home environment of belonging and affirmation. We will define Racial Identity Development and chart a path to support its unfolding as we encourage each child to embrace their own race and ethnicity and celebrate the race and ethnicity of others.
This live-only event will be held by Zoom on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at 3:30 pm HT, 5:30 pm PT, 6:30 pm MT, 7:30 pm CT, and 8:30 pm ET. This Parent Evening will not be recorded to allow for open and free sharing during the event.

Biodynamic Beekeeper and Farmer Gunther Hauk visited our early childhood classes. He told the story of a children’s book he wrote and spoke to the children about bee-ing kind to bees and all creatures. It was a very special day for all of us to spend time with such a wonderful educator and anthroposophist.

“Stress reduction, greater physical health, a deeper sense of spirit, more creativity, a sense of play, even a safer life - these are the rewards that await a family when it invites more nature into children’s lives.” Richard Louv, Last Child in the Woods
Our children are lucky to spend half of their day outside. There are numerous benefits for outdoor play environments: children build their confidence, resilience, they learn to challenge themselves, problem-solve and as a result learn to be adaptable while learning to care for the environment around them.

🧶 Why knitting?! Knitting is a practical art that is taught throughout Waldorf education. It helps the left and right hemispheres of the brain to weave connections and build neural pathways. Knitting also supports hand-eye coordination as the eyes see what the hands feel. It is a wonderful fine motor skill activity that the children learn first in preschool with finger-crochet, finger-knitting in kindergarten, and after making their own knitting needles in first grade, they learn to knit with them. Knitting projects progress through the grades and become rites of passage when each child knits their animal, flute bag, gnome, and more!
More tickets released!!!! Due to high demand, we have added more tickets for Halloween Enchantment on Saturday October 28th.
Join us on magical, wonder-filled journeys through our enchanted land. As you make your way, you will meet beloved fairy tale characters who have come to life, and they will share a story or song and offer a small gift to the children.
This is an alternative to the often scary, sugar-filled activities of trick-or-treating. This event is specifically for toddlers and young children up to 10 years old and is open to the public.
Lots of firsts for the first grade - writing, reading, and knitting oh, my!
Handwork Photo Dump! The start of the year has been focused on making knitting needles, harvesting, plant dyeing, and geography. Grades 3 and 4 wet felted Earth 🌍 balls as they have been in a geography block. Children harvested marigolds and eucalyptus leaves to make our own plant dye-baths. The results are stunning! Such beauty from the multitudes that mother nature offers, right here in our own garden!
