Robey's mission is to foster a community of artists. The Robey Theatre Company is a nonprofit developmental theatre organization.
We were founded in 1994 by veteran actors Ben Guillory and Danny Glover, who believed in the transformational power of plays. We are deeply saddened by the passing of James Earl Jones (1931-2024), a legendary actor and voice in theater and film. One of the most recognizable voices in cinematic history, bringing life to iconic characters such as Darth Vader in Star Wars and Mufasa in The Lion King. His legacy as an artist, mentor, and advocate for social justice will continue to inspire us for generations.
James Earl Jones shaped the lives of countless artists and audiences with his powerful performances on stage and screen, earning accolades like two Tony Awards, a Grammy, and an honorary Oscar. His work on Broadway in plays such as Fences and The Great White Hope was groundbreaking, and he is remembered for his unwavering commitment to his craft and to the elevation of Black voices in the arts.
As we reflect on his incredible contributions, we remember his warmth, wisdom, and unmatched talent. Rest in power, James Earl Jones. You will always be in our hearts.
We Remember.
Today, we pause to honor the lives lost, the bravery shown, and the resilience of a nation united in the face of tragedy.
May we never forget the strength that comes from standing together.

We present to you The Robey Theatre Company 1997 Season Brochure. This brochure presents the outstanding work planned for 1997.
During this time, our "Play Reading Series" began to develop, and we found it to be essentially important in the life of a playwright. 27 years later, this series developed into our "Playwrights Lab."
Our 'Acting Workshops' with Producing Artistic Director Ben Guillory were also developed into our 'Advanced Scene Study Workshop,' which continues to thrive even after 27 years. For more details on our work, please visit our website (https://www.therobeytheatrecompany.org/).
This 1997 season was produced by our founder, Danny Glover's former production company "Carrie Productions."
During this time, The Actor's Gang () provided hospitality and contributed towards our success.
Thank you.
“We must join with the tens of millions all over the world who see in peace our most sacred responsibility.” ~ Paul Robeson

Overcome an inadequate education and better her living conditions through education by receiving a formal education at the famed Tuskegee Normal Institute under the scrutiny of Assistant Principal Margaret James-Murray.
