Adrianna Kezar, Jordan Harper, and Rozana Carducci's article "Equity without whiteness: what leaders get wrong in pursuit of an equitable campus" takes a deep dive into how the term equity has played an increasing role in discussions surrounding higher education but also how whiteness has become a target of analysis. They emphasize how it is important that the idea of whiteness and oppression is not left out when discussing how equity can be advanced, as has been done in the past. Dr. Royel Johnson and Morgan Polikoff's op-ed "Project 2025 Will End Education As We Know It" details the effects of Project 2025 on American education and higher education if it is implemented. With one of the measures being to eliminate the US Department of Education entirely, equitable access to opportunity for marginalized students is at extreme risk. It can also limit higher education through rolling back federal student loan initiatives and thus directly affect access to safe and equitable learning environments. Dr. Royel Johnson and Dr. Jessica DeCuir-Gunby's op-ed "A 'Black-Serving Institution' designation is a great start, but more is needed" is centered around a new California bill that would designate higher education universities that 'excel at providing academic resources to Black and African American students.' Before passing the bill, it is important to take into account 1) the state funding, 2) means to measure progress, and 3) the incorporation of evidence-based practices.
