“If the idea of the universe is presented to the child in the right way, it will do more for him than just arouse his interest, for it will create in him admiration and wonder, a feeling loftier than any interest and more satisfying.” -Maria Montessori

When was the last time you took a nap outdoors?

The preschool class has been super excited about our new infant program! They welcomed our newest community members with a special painting that is now hanging in the new classroom.

On a daily basis, the older group comes over to say hello, check in to see if the “babies” need anything and spend time together in the backyard. During this time, the older group observes how infants move from one space to another, eat, pose questions, and cheer them on when they come across a challenge (example: climbing).

We cannot wait to see what lines of inquiry unfold from these experiences!

4 Reasons To Ditch Academic Preschools - Janet Lansbury 11/10/2021

4 Reasons To Ditch Academic Preschools - Janet Lansbury I’m still scratching my head that I actually witnessed this… Years ago, I was investigating preschools for my first child and made a scheduled visit to one of the most popular schools in the neighborhood, chosen by parents I consider to be intelligent and thoughtful. As I entered the classroom a...

Setting Limits with Toddlers

Setting Limits With Toddlers - The Choices They Can't Make - Janet Lansbury ‘Respect’ is vital to parenting, but the word can confuse us, especially when it comes to setting limits with toddlers. Children need lots of opportunities to be autonomous and have their choices respected. At the same time, they also need to know they’re not in charge, and we demonstrate that...

Homework Is Ruining Our Kids. The Research is Clear. Let’s Ban It. Ordinary moment :
When a classmate comes over to draw a heart for a peer who was feeling sad because her daddy could not pick her up from school…….

Child 1: I am feeling sad because I want my daddy to pick me up (crying).
Teacher: I see that you are so sad and disappointed that the plan changed for pick up.
Child 1: yes, I want him to come.
Teacher : Sometimes things can shift unexpectedly and we can feel mixed emotions. What about if you make daddy a note so he knows how you are feeling ?
Child 1: Ok.
After a few minutes of making marks on the paper…..
Child 1: I want to make a big heart so he knows how much I love him, but I don’t know how to make a heart.
Child 2 who was in the building area hears his peer and walks over…
Child 2: I can help you make a heart. I know how to make them.
Child 1: Yay! Thank you.
