Remembering the larger-than-life impact and visionary leadership of the Honorable Richard Alatorre, whose indomitable spirit and unwavering dedication transformed the landscape of Los Angeles and California politics. As the second Latino to ever serve on the Los Angeles City Council in the 20th Century, his tenacious advocacy for reapportionment, redistricting, and farm labor laws profoundly shaped Latino political power and empowered migrant workers with collective bargaining rights. His courageous and transformative legacy as a champion for the Latino community will resonate for generations to come. Our hearts and thoughts are with his family, friends, and all Angelenos as we honor the monumental life and legacy of this esteemed leader. Rest in power, Richard Alatorre (1939-2024).

Cathryn Rivera has served as Appointments Secretary for Governor Gavin Newsom since 2019 and was instrumental in ensuring diverse voices were represented across all levels of government. Attendees received advocacy training, engaged with HOPE’s policy platform, and advocated at the Capitol 🏛️.

Latina Action Day was a powerful celebration of Latina leadership, advocacy, and unity. Stay tuned for opportunities to continue advocating with HOPE throughout the year and join us in empowering Latinas for a brighter future!

📉 "The State of Latinas in Corporate America" by Lean In highlights the troubling underrepresentation of Latinas in corporate leadership.

In 2009, HOPE's report "Missing: Latinas in Executive Leadership in California's Corporations" found that Latinas were virtually absent in C-suite positions, showing little progress in 15 years.

Both reports urge corporations to prioritize Latina success by fostering inclusive workplaces, enhancing flexibility, and expanding recruitment efforts, among other tactics. Let's continue to push for change! 💪🏽✨

Juneteenth is a holiday celebrating the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that all enslaved people were free. This announcement came more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. Juneteenth is a time to remember those who suffered under slavery and to celebrate the freedom of all people.

This historic photograph, taken by Grace Murray Stephenson in 1900, captures a group of African American elders celebrating Juneteenth in Austin, Texas. The joy and pride on their faces are a testament to the significance of this holiday, not just as a commemoration of the past but also as a symbol of hope for a better future. Let us honor Juneteenth by recognizing the importance of this moment in history and continuing to work towards a future of equality and justice for all.
