2023 Professional Program in Writing for Television student, Emma Fiske-Dobell, just won the Humanitas' David and Lynn Angell College Comedy Award! It’s a pretty major achievement and comes with a $20,000 prize.

She wrote the script in our class this year, and beat out students from every college across the United States, and from every discipline and major. (This is our second student to win a Humanitas in the last few years.)

Deborah has created iconic costumes throughout her career, such as the fedora and jacket of Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) in Raiders of the Lost Ark, the "college" sweatshirt worn by John "Bluto" Blutarsky (John Belushi) in Animal House, and Michael Jackson's red jacket in Thriller. In addition to many Drama-Logue Awards for her theater designs, she was nominated for an Academy Award in 1988 for Coming to America.

Barbara was as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in downtown Los Angeles for nearly a decade, working in the Major Violent Crimes Unit on federal cases that included murder-for-hire, prison murder, racketeering, arson, kidnapping, and bank robbery--that is, until Hollywood literally came calling.

This competitive-admission program was designed for the new up-and-coming director: someone who has not yet commanded a proper industry film or television set, and wants to have a full understanding of the scope of their responsibilities before they arrive on the job.

The program will cover the basics of directing, introduce students to the above and below-the-line industry partners they will be working with, and delve deeper into the director’s artistic and technical responsibilities to these people and to themselves.
