Since Russia’s full-scale invasion, Ukraine's medical professionals have had to adapt to meet the needs of both civilian and military patients.

"Three years ago, we didn't have physical therapists, occupational therapists, or psychologists, let alone adequate rehabilitation aids,” said Mykhailo Kobzei, head of the Department of Rehabilitation and Restorative Medicine at the Central City Clinical Hospital in Ivano-Frankivsk. With Momentum Wheels for Humanity's support, the department has been rapidly expanding and has a beacon of hope in a difficult time.

"We will build a great Ukraine, regardless of any circumstances," Kobzei said.

Momentum Wheels for Humanity is increasing access to quality rehabilitation services across Ukraine through evidence-based training for physical and occupational therapists, and assistive product supply and provision.

Physical therapist Sergii Polivoda, who has attended several trainings, said, "We used to have problems with people not knowing where to buy rehabilitation aids, how to use them, or how to adjust them. After working with Momentum, everything has changed drastically. Now, as soon as a patient arrives, we assess their condition, determine if they need a rehabilitation aid, and how we can assist in their rehabilitation. If needed, the necessary aids arrive within 1-2 days."

"I observe how our specialists approach rehabilitation services differently now. When you call a physical therapist or an occupational therapist, you realize they know more than I do as a department head because of what they've learned from Momentum. It's not just about choosing a rehabilitation aid but also teaching patients how to use it," Mykhailo Kobzei added.

Today we’re proud to be supporting the first ever World Day for Assistive Technology.

Whether it’s eyeglasses, hearing aids, wheelchairs, prosthetics, screen-readers or other products, 2.5 billion people need at least one form of assistive product today – and that number is expected to reach 3.5 billion by 2050. Millions of people around the world are prevented from going to school or earning a living because they can’t access the assistive technology they need. This has to change.

It’s time to ensure that everyone, everywhere can access the assistive technology they need - to study, work, and enjoy the everyday moments that many of us take for granted.

We are committed to reaching millions more people with the assistive technology they need - to live a more comfortable and accessible life.

Today is !

Did you know today, June 4th, 2024, is the first ever World Day for Assistive Technology?

Access to assistive technology can make the difference between failure and success at school, between a job or unemployment, and between a life of opportunity or dependency.

This day is all about celebrating the incredible impact assistive technology has on people with disabilities. From wheelchairs and prosthetics to screen readers and communication devices, this tech supports people in living more independent and fulfilling lives.

But there's a gap in access. Right now, only 10% of people in low-income countries can get the assistive technology they need. We believe access to assistive tech is a human right, and we're working to change that!

Join us today in raising awareness and supporting organizations working to for everyone.

06/03/2024

🎉 Mark your calendars! Tomorrow, June 4th, 2024, is the first ever World Day for Assistive Technology (AT)!

World AT Day is about raising awareness of the importance of assistive technology and the need to make it accessible to everyone, everywhere - especially in low-income countries.

2.5 billion people need AT, but only 10% in low-income countries can access it.

Let's and work together to bridge this gap!

📡 Develop communications that prioritize disability inclusiveness to ensure everyone receives critical information promptly.
🚨 Train national emergency responders to support people with disabilities in all stages of disaster management—risk reduction, response, and recovery.
🩼 Promote the integration of AT to facilitate disability-inclusive search and rescue operations and evacuation.
📣 Raise awareness about the importance of disability-inclusive disaster risk reduction and response.
