's Artists-in-Classrooms (AIC) program has been enriching K-12 students in high-need schools since 1999, providing essential arts education that many would otherwise miss. Professional Artist-Teachers engage students for 12 weeks, fostering creativity and cultural appreciation through process-based learning. This year, AIC reached over 3,400 students across 122 classrooms in Los Angeles County and Long Beach, totaling 44,000 hours of arts programming.

From : CHẾ, 𝙄𝙢𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙎𝙞𝙚𝙫𝙚, 2024. Mesh fabric, Ink, wood, glass, titanium, round rocks and minerals from Los Angeles, dimensions variable.

The concept of this piece was born from a conversation with a friend in regards to assimilation versus acculturation: Does survival lead to dilution or filtration of culture? As first generation immigrants, there are abstract memories of what “home” is that are constantly influxing with our present environment. In front of the installation lies a circular, bronze table displaying a natural water filtration system made of found rocks and materials held inside a glass vessel. The rocks and minerals are sourced from the artist's home in Los Angeles and symbolize the physical manifestation of her own internal negotiation between her western and southeastern identity. The installation explores a subconscious assimilation by showcasing loose paintings of Vietnamese and American landscapes on mesh fabric that cascade downward, where the idea of cultural negotiation is filtered through intervals of time.

Unplugged/Plugged is a contemporary art exhibition that explores a dynamic range of methodologies displaying different sculptural approaches by artists that rely on technology and those that do not. ArtLab is a free afternoon of science and art put on by Angels Gate Cultural Center (AGCC) and Marine Mammal Care Center Los Angeles (MMCC). ArtLab is free and fun for all ages—everyone is welcome and all supplies are provided. Registration required.

Participants will explore the art of piñata making in this free workshop. Together, we will create and decorate marine creature piñatas with colorful, decorative tissue paper. You won't want to miss this workshop!

TORRANCE, CA – Torrance Art Museum (TAM) is pleased to announce the second installment of TRYST, an international alternative art fair for artist-run spaces and initiatives, and NOMAD III, a non-commercial pop-up exhibition featuring Southern California artists.

TRYST Alternative Art Fair
Produced by TAM and supported by the City of Torrance, TRYST is the world’s largest international art fair dedicated to artist-run spaces and collectives. This platform offers global exposure and fosters artistic exchange. Over the course of a week, participants exhibit their artists, share ideas, and explore Southern California's art scene. They will be exhibiting a variety of works, including painting, sculpture, photography, video art, installation, and more.
TRYST addresses the need for opportunities that support artistic exchange among grassroots organizations worldwide. It introduces international artists to Los Angeles, a leading center for contemporary art. By connecting artists with the city’s vibrant arts scene and with each other, TRYST provides extensive networking opportunities, including talks, performances, and social events.
The second edition of TRYST joins a global network of alternative, non-commercial art fairs such as Juxtapose (Denmark), Platforms (Greece), QiPO (Mexico), and Supermarket (Sweden). This fair stands out by offering free applications, participation, and hotel accommodations for visiting collectives, celebrating independent artistic practices and collaboration.


NOMAD Returns for its Third Year
TAM's innovative contemporary art pop-up, NOMAD, is back for its third year, celebrating the diverse and dynamic talents of Southern California artists. This non-commercial exhibition will showcase over 150 artists from Southern California and beyond, featuring a wide range of mediums including sculpture, painting, installation, and more. NOMAD III serves as a giant artistic gathering, allowing artists to present their recent works, connect with peers, and explore future opportunities. It’s a chance for creators to engage with both fellow artists and the public, fostering an environment of creativity and collaboration.

In this piece, uses weaving not only as a means of textile production, but also as a methodology for how the clothing itself functions, creating physical spaces for the body as well as internal, psychological spaces for identity to perform itself. This piece conjures the movement of feeling between the body and the mind.
