Meet Emily Wyland, College of Business Spring 2024 Outstanding Graduate in Computer Information Systems (CIS)! Emily made the decision to pursue her bachelor’s degree in CIS after taking an elective in her sophomore year. “After learning more about technology and coding, I felt like I truly found my passion,” she shared.

“Being selected as an Outstanding Graduate is truly humbling and deeply meaningful to me,” explained Emily when reflecting on being a recipient of this honor. “It serves as a testament to the incredible support and guidance I have received throughout my academic journey. Receiving this recognition motivates me to continue striving for excellence and making a positive impact.”

Excited for what her professional future holds, Emily shared her plans after graduation, which include working full-time for Samtec as an IT Project Manager. “I started at Samtec as an IT Co-Op in 2023 and loved the company and my position,” she shared. She also noted the assistance she received from the Ulmer Career Management Center with identifying the position and how it helped her to jumpstart her career. “I feel very lucky that the College of Business Career Center helped me find this Co-Op position at Samtec.”

Congrats Emily! We wish you the best as you begin your new role. 🎓🎉💼

We would like to recognize Paige Erhart, our 2024 Staff Excellence Award Recipient and Associate Director for the Ulmer Career Center, for the significant contributions she is making not only to College of Business students and alumni but also to her colleagues who work alongside her each day. One co-worker noted, “When you are a new employee, first impressions and acts of kindness go a long way. Paige is one of those such people who has always taken the time to engage with me, inform me, answer questions, and just be a welcoming colleague to go to for anything. She makes time for everyone – each of her team members and those, like me, who want to connect. I never hear her complain. She takes on each day and each interaction with positivity and wants you to leave the conversation feeling good. I am very thankful to have such a great role model in our office.”

Big News! Earlier this month the Ulmer Career Center bid a fond farewell to our director of 18 years, Eileen Davis as she began her well deserved retirement. Read this story to learn more about the impact she had on the center, staff, students and alumni she worked with.

With a passion for people and the unique stories they share, former Ulmer Career Management Center Director Eileen Davis made it her professional mission to aid those College of Business students and alums she advised to look at themselves, the work they were doing, and their professional dreams and goals through a new lens. “I want people to empower themselves by understanding themselves better,” she explained. “They don’t see how good they are, and my job is to find whatever they can contribute that’s different from what other people contribute.”

Having decided to retire from the College in January 2024, Davis leaves behind a 20-year legacy she built from the ground up with the launch of the College’s dedicated career center, named after a generous donation by Helen and Dan Ulmer. Today, the Center provides lifetime career coaching to all degree-earning graduates of the College, resume services, mentorship, and interview preparation, and it hosts career fairs geared toward business students and graduates.
