Last week and weekend the sports crew from Sodexo's Grounds department worked extra innings to make sure the diamonds and fields were "game ready" for the softball tournament. The sports and grounds crews should be called up to the "Big Leagues" for their dedication to student safety by keeping the fields properly marked and well-groomed.

Sodexo has friends in high places! Master Electrician and Maintenance Foreman, Randy Odell, and electrician, Mike Jones, make repairs to the field lights just prior to baseball's and softball's return to the diamonds. Good luck to all of Lubbock ISD teams: Play Ball!

Congratulations and great thanks to Teresa Mendez for 40 years of housekeeping service to the students and staffs of Lubbock ISD. Teresa is a shining example of steadfast dedication to both her craft and customers. There is no task or service request that upsets her, and she often pitches in to help beyond her scheduled shifts. If one were to search for a model of exemplary work ethic, he or she would no doubt find Teresa at the front of the line.

Essential Functions
- Provide the highest quality of service to customers at all times.
- Performs all work safely, efficiently and effectively with good quality, including wearing protective clothing as required by the work environment or government regulations.
- Must be able to utilize the electronic work order system and receive instructions from supervisor or client regarding roofing needs.
- Perform emergency roofing repairs required.
- Perform preventative maintenance on roofs.
- Lifting and moving supplies, equipment and materials.
- Follow established rules, policies, and procedures.
- Hours may fluctuate based on business demands.
- Other duties as assigned by a supervisor.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
- Five years continuous experience in commercial roofing including built up, modified bitumen, clay tile, shingles, and metal roofs.
- Must maintain a valid state driver’s license.
- Ability to read blueprints.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to climb a ladder to perform maintenance functions and to access the roof of a building.
- Ability to regularly use hands and fingers to handle or feel; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and talk or hear.
- Ability to frequently stand, walk, climb, and balance.
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work while exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and outside weather conditions including extreme cold and extreme heat.

Must walk 3-4 schools per day (spraying cracks in sidewalks, curbs, blacktops, tracks, under any stands, chad material, sand pits, parking lots, and edges of playgrounds)
Perform all other grounds keeping duties as assigned (On days unable to spray, you will use w**d eater to maintain w**ds at campuses)
Qualifications
High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
Must maintain a valid Texas driver’s license.
TDA Commercial Applicators license required.
Two or more years experience in chemical application.
Ability to operate machinery for spraying and fertilizing.
Physical Requirements
Ability to perform manual labor required to accomplish the routine work assignments.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Promotion!
Congratulations to Clarence Collins, our new Lubbock ISD/Sodexo Facilities Maintenance Foreman for the campuses in the Monterey Feeder Pattern. Clarence has been a Maintenance Engineer at Monterey High School and Wheelock Elementary since his hiring in November of 2018. He has a distinguished background in construction, customer service and education to successfully attend to District stakeholders' maintenance needs . Join us as we recognize Clarence's promotion and wish him continued success.

On the first day in April 1991 the Duke Blue Devils defeated the Kansas Jayhawks 72-65 in the NCAA Basketball Championship. Lubbock ISD/Sodexo Facilities also scored a victory when Lee Melbye started his career here! Today, 30 years later, we celebrate his service as a Maintenance Supervisor. His work has, and still does, ensure safe and healthy conditions for Lubbock ISD students, staff and guests. No foolin', Lee deserves many congratulations.

Congratulations and great thanks to Moises Martinez at Wolffarth Elementary (five years), Jose Garcia at McCool Academy (five years) and Rodney Tanner at Rush Elementary (ten years) for their dedicated service to Lubbock ISD students, faculties and guests.
