September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and what could be a better way to start the proteomics rising star lecture series than by a great talk on genomics and proteomics of pediatric midline glioma by our rising star graduate student .shireman!! The key to finding druggable targets for this devastating pediatric cancer is by throughly understanding the genomic and proteomics correlation of the cancer.

It was such a busy but productive summer in Dey Lab. We had a great time hosting multiple summer students who are interested in learning more about brain cancer and basic science research! Congratulations Yilong for completing of the Carbon Cancer Center SCORE program!! He enjoyed his time so much that he will continue to stay involved during upcoming fall semester!!

Since the day I met my husband 25 years ago, I have known that he is a die hard fan! I think he loves more than me 😂….yet I heard about few days ago and not for his football 🏈 skills but about some advice he was offering the graduating class of college…
So the women of college hear me loud and clear…
In some ways, my life started after I got married to my husband

I graduated from college with 4.0 GPA
I finished medical school at Baylor College of Medicine
I finished neurosurgery residency at university of Chicago
I became a board certified academic neurosurgeon scientist
I finished post doctoral fellowship in brain cancer therapy development
I started my own brain cancer research laboratory
I am working on developing brain cancer targeting vaccines while also operating on 🧠 on brain cancer
I am training many men and women (just like you) to be a change maker and make the world a better place by advancing and
While also raising a kind, smart and adorable baby boy!!
So believe me when I say that the only diabolical lie that is being told to accomplished women is the you have to listen to someone like on a day when all your accomplishments and hard works should be celebrated!!! So go rock the world and….

Another publication, hot off the press!!! This is a true labor of love. My first investigator initiated clinical trial evaluating pre-operative radiosurgery and its efficacy. Started this trial with my Co-PI Late Dr Watson an awesome radiation oncologist and an amazing human being!!
Getting this trial from inception to final publication was a humbling learning experience!!

We had more than 200 children plus their parents stop by our station.
They operated on 100 jello brain 🧠 and resected more than 200 brain tumors (cake ball 😉)!!!
This could not have been possible without the hard work and time of all the Dey Lab members!!! Big shout out to all the amazing lab members .shireman , Lei, Xiaohu, Neel, Caelan, and Emily!!!
