Today was our last day. WOW, did you all send us off with a bang over these last three weeks!!! (That's one exclamation point for each week.)
We thank EVERY ONE OF YOU for all of the support you gave us for 15 YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Looking back, we are most grateful for the opportunity to have met all kinds of interesting people--all of you who make up the fabric of Madison's wonderful, inclusive, and diverse culture (along with the many more people from outside of Madison).
Also, THANK YOU to all of our amazing staff through the years! (Oh my god, our staff throughout the years--the stories we share!)
And also, thanks to our vendors who always went to great lengths to keep us up and running whenever things went awry!
Finally, thanks to our incredible community partners like Porchlight, Rainbow Coalition, Our Lives Magazine, and Pam Blair for our fantastic floral displays, and so many more.
We can't thank you enough for your partnerships!

4 days left! My goodness your support has been incredible!
We always want to be good stewards of food waste, so we've made the following plan. 1) We should have our full Lunch and Breakfast Menus available tomorrow, but starting Friday we may start to run out of some Lunch Menu items. 2) We hope to run out of all Lunch Menu items over the weekend, but we are committed to making all Breakfast Menu items available to the end.
(After that, we'll be donating anything left to the Goodman Center or whatever other outlets we can find to save or repurpose our food.)

We at the Daisy are overwhelmed by your support since we announced our closing last week.
No, literally...we are OVERWHELMED and we have to take an entire day off to replenish and re-prep our supplies--WE HAVE TO CLOSE ON WEDNESDAY, but we will be ready for the Thursday through Sunday rush.

Now I know we're closing for sure because I heard it reported as the lead story on Civic Media's local radio news recap over and over again this morning. I guess we were something special, since the news told us so.
The story mentioned that we are offering our normally weekends-only CHORIZO BISCUITS AND GRAVY every day until we close, because we know it's been a favorite--come and get it!
(In case you don't know, Civic Media stations include the Devil's Advocates, the Stephanie Miller Show, Matenaer On Air, and other excellent progressive media shows.)

Dear friends of the Daisy Cafe & Cupcakery--
It is with heavy hearts that Kathy and I inform you that, after 15 years in business, we are closing the Daisy as of August 26, 2024.

Our opening was built on the premise of our "4 Cs"--"Cafe, Cupcakes, Coffee, Community." To be a good restaurant, we needed to get the first three right, but it was making a difference in our "Community" that drove us most. We so appreciate all of our customers! We are proud to have employed so many authentic, caring, much-loved employees. And we know that we've made important ongoing financial contributions to local groups that work toward the social good
—
like Porchlight (supporting the homeless), The Rainbow Coalition (supporting victims of domestic abuse), libraries, schools, fire and police departments, etc.

When we opened the Daisy in 2009, we were in the middle of the Great Recession (the worst since the Great Depression) and in the middle of the Scott Walker "Act 10" revolution. Kathy and I wanted to offer an oasis of happiness to our community. We hoped to run a business for 15-20 years and we figured it couldn't get much worse than it was when we started. We are grateful that we got off to a great start and that our wonderful customers have sustained us for so many years.

Little did we imagine that we would have to get through the COVID years. The constant reconfiguring of how to run our business was brutal, and we are proud to have survived the worst of it. But the post-COVID difficulties continue, and it's just too much. For all of these years, our customers and employees charged our batteries. Now in our 60s, Kathy and I need to devote more time to charging our own individual drives, and our mutual battery.

Random fun fact! In the 100+ years our building has been in existence, no business lasted longer than the Daisy's 15 years!

We'd love to see you over the next three weeks. We live just blocks away from the Daisy and we hope to stay connected with many of you over the years to come.
