Lights, Camera, Camp! Dane County 4-H Camp 1 is off to a fabulous start! So far, the weather has been perfect for our trip to Upham Woods Outdoor Learning Center! Our campers are engaged in fun activities and making new friends. Today we want to thank our fabulous volunteers who come back every year to help make this the best camp ever. This year we are celebrating Rhonda who has volunteered with Dane County 4-H Camp for 25 years! 🍀❤️ Amazing, right?! We think so too!
Our 4-H youth were busy at the Dane County Fair this week! Thank you to the Dane County 4-H Leaders Board Youth Members who organized a fantastic family pizza, dance and game night on Saturday! Everyone was able to relax for a few minutes and connect with friends from other clubs.
The Dane County Fair opens today! Our 4-H members brought in a variety of exhibits this week for you to check out when you visit. We hope you’ll stop by to enjoy the fair and learn something from a 4-Her!
It’s Fair Season! Our Dane County 4-H youth have been busy sharing what they learned with others at the Stoughton and Lodi fairs. This week, you can check out our kids at the Dane County Fair! These experiences help our youth become more confident with communication and receiving feedback. If you participated in a fair this summer, share a picture below. We’d love to see your exhibits!
Practice pays off! The Dane County 4-H Dairy Judging Team has been honing their skills all year with many Spring practices and it showed at the Area Animal Science Day on June 20, 2024! Check out these highlights: Dane Co Juniors were the 1st place team and top team for Junior reasons, Kian received the 1st place Junior Individual Overall and 1st place in TAQs, Dane Co Seniors were the 3rd place team and 3rd place for reasons, and Joseph was one of the top three showmen. You can check out the other ribbons below. Way to go! Thank you to our volunteer coaches for sharing their knowledge.
Participating in Dairy Judging provides an excellent opportunity for youth to not only increase their knowledge of evaluating dairy cattle but also develop and hone valuable communication skills that will be useful for a lifetime. June is Dairy month! Stop by the Sun Prairie Farmers Market this morning, make an LED bee with our 4-H members and learn why pollinators are important to your ice cream sundae. Volunteering like this builds confidence, public speaking skills…and promotes 4-H!
A shout out to our Dane County 4-H Dog Project Volunteers! We are lucky to have such dedicated adult and youth leaders helping our 4-H members learn about dogs through Quiz Bowl, Obedience and Agility training. What’s Earth without ‘art’ in it? Just Eh… These Dane County 4-H members are making our earth a better place by learning new skills that stretch their creativity. On Saturday, April 27, 4-H Art Sparks Day participants created art pieces using metal enameling, talavera plate painting, block printing, and pop art painting. The finished pieces are pretty amazing!

You are invited to the Teen Va**ng Awareness Campaign Event! For the past year, 8 high school students from Madison worked alongside Public Health Madison Dane County and UW-Madison Extension to create youth-designed posters that raise awareness about the risks of va**ng among Wisconsin teens.
Join these students in an “open house style” event as they share their experiences, what they learned, and the process behind designing the posters.

Our Dane County 4-H Cloverbuds (youth in 5K-2nd grade) were busy on Sunday learning how to make salsa from scratch using fresh vegetables, decorating pots, starting bean plants with a sponge, and singing songs about the plant cycle. Thanks to our 4-H Ambassadors (youth in grades 8+) who organized the Cloverbud Garden Day!
Cloverbuds are encouraged to have fun with hands on, engaging activities so when they are finished with 2nd grade, they feel better about the project areas they want to learn more about. It was an EGGcellent day for a hatchery tour! Thanks to 4-H Volunteers, Betty and Greg Wolff, for sharing their facilities and passion for hatching poultry in Dane County. Youth learned about the science of incubation, candling eggs and chick distribution.

Congratulations to the 2024 Dane County 4-H Scholarship recipients! These outstanding youth demonstrated personal growth through project learning, community service and leadership throughout their time as 4-H members. They will be celebrated at the Awards Ceremony on Sunday, July 21, 2024 at the Dane County Fair. Their future is bright!
The Dane County 4-H Leaders Association supports the scholarship program through fundraisers, like the Dane County Fair Potato Stand. You can support the scholarship program by volunteering at the 4-H potato stand or eating a few potatoes at the fair!
The DeForest Handy Helpers 4-H Club received an Endowment Grant for $250 from the Dane County Leaders Association and an additional $250 from the DeForest FFA Alumni for their Grant Project. They are working with the DeForest Windsor Fire and EMS Department to build educational props to help teach children about fire safety. Sunday, April 14th, club members got together to start building items that include a plywood "home" that children will spray water on to put out the "fire" and doors to rescue bean bag victims. Way to go Handy Helpers!!

We have the PURRRRfect opportunity for you to learn about Cats! Join us for the next county-wide 4-H Cat Project Meeting on Sunday, April 7, 2024 from 1:00-2:00pm at the 4-H Office (5201 Fen Oak Dr).
This cat meeting topic will be showmanship. You will learn some cat showmanship basics from 4-H youth leaders with experience showing their cat at the Fair. This meeting is open to all 4-H members interested in learning more about cats.

We appreciate our volunteers! These awesome adult and youth volunteers have committed to serving Dane County 4-H in 2024 as representatives on the Leaders Association Board. The DC4-HLA has four main objectives: conducting countywide programs, raising funds, coordinating recognition, and promoting 4-H in the community.
The next full Leaders Association meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 16, 2024. At least one leader/adult from each club should be in attendance to collect the information shared. The topic in April will be summer Fairs.
The Dane Co 4-H Performers festival is coming up! Join us from 2:30 to 4:30pm at Oakwood Village West on Saturday May 4, 2024 to watch 4-H youth that like to perform on stage. There is still time to sign up for the Dane County 4-H Photography Zoom Meeting scheduled for this Saturday, March 16 at 2:00pm.
