A little throwback Thursday inspiration. 🗓️

🇺🇬Back in 2007, a young, single mother, Susan struggled to care for her young child, Winnie. With assistance from Project Have Hope, Susan studied tailoring and when Winnie was old enough, Project Have Hope enrolled her in school. 📚

If you really look closely, most overnight successes took a long time. ~Steve Jobs

Success takes time. Hard work. Tenacity. Life wasn't always easy for Susan, but she never gave up hope.

“It was a very great change for me.” Susan recalls of how Project Have Hope transformed her life.

Pursuing a course in tailoring would have been an impossibility without the financial support of Project Have Hope. Susan has gained both a skill and a confidence that helps her to navigate the future and the challenges that persist.

Much of Susan’s youth was spent rising before the sun and going to bed long after the moon had risen. Her day would start at 4am, when she would rise to head to the fields to work. She’d return home as the sun was setting and begin the time-consuming task of preparing a meal. Day after day.

At 19, a young mother herself, Susan moved to the Acholi Quarter. There, she labored in the stone quarry, often with her infant baby on her back.

When Project Have Hope began, it was a welcome relief to Susan. She could work from home with her daughter seated nearby and roll paper into beads. “It was simple work, easy work,” Susan carefreely recalls. Not only was the work easy, but she’d earn twice what she earned in the quarry.

Susan later enrolled in a tailoring course through Project Have Hope’s support. From the beginning, she was thrilled with the opportunity tailoring presented. “You can expect money any day, any time,” Susan beams. “If I return to the village, I can bring my tailoring machine and work from there and earn a living. I can work anywhere.”

Will you say "YES!" to transforming a life?

There are more women, like Susan, waiting for an opportunity to stitch their way into a sustainable future.

Will you make a one year commitment, at just $25 a month, to empower a mother to both provide for her family and to be a role model to her children and the community?

Will you join us? Read the full story and learn how you can say "YES!"

Meet Mercy. When we first met her in 2005, she was a young girl who often had a sad smile. Those days are long gone and that sad smile has given way to a repressible grin and bold personality with more s***k than one could expect to fit into such a young woman.

These days, she's a teacher herself and changing lives. That's the power of our scholastic sponsorship program.

Have you met Santina? She's an integral part of the Project Have Hope team, a talented artisan and an entrepreneur.

Married, with four children, at 47, Santina has steadily risen in the ranks of Project Have Hope through her dedication and hard work. She is always willing to help and is not intimidated by the long hours it often takes to get the job done. Through her work with PHH, Santina has benefited from computer classes and graduated from the tailoring program. Her English has vastly improved and she has honed her entrepreneurial skills. In addition to being part of the leadership team, her entrepreneurial spirit thrives in her other pursuits. She has multiple small businesses: baking cakes, making table cloths, doing hair dressing and has an established brick making business. She hopes one day to build a tailoring workshop and a hair dressing salon. She also sees a bright future for her two eldest children who have participated in our scholastic sponsorship program. Her son has completed a course in plumbing and her daughter is studying to become a nurse. She has set her sights on opening a health clinic in the Acholi Quarter where her daughter can work.

In her free time, Santina participates in drama and creating skits. She especially enjoys sharing Acholi proverbs. “Ka itye ki mom mapol, lebi bedo mapol.” lf you have many wives you also have many tongues. In time, she plans to purchase a piece of land in her home village in the north where she can build a home for her retirement.

"Impossible is nothing," is our motto. 🙃

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, or so they say.
We certainly believe that no child should go hungry. We're striving to do just that in the Acholi Quarter. Each morning, we feed over 200 children breakfast. 🇺🇬

We believe that together, we can make the world a little better.

A little throwback Thursday fun! 😆

Meet Doreen! Here she is modeling a necklace she made back in 2007. Yep! You read that right ... 2007! That's how long we've been in the game of empowering Ugandan women and their families.

Her entrepreneurial spirit persists and she's now running a small vegetable stand from her home.

Doreen was born in the village of Pader in Northern Uganda. Her father died when she was just two years old. Her mother was able to send her to school through primary 5. Doreen then joined her mother farming.

At age 16, Doreen married and followed her husband to the Acholi Quarter where she found work in the stone quarry. In addition to working in the quarry, Doreen established a small business selling chips and pancakes. These days, Doreen no longer works in the quarry. Instead, she sells fruits and vegetables from a small stall in front of her home.

Since her education was cut short abruptly, she wants to make sure her children have the opportunity to complete their studies.

Interested in learning more about Doreen and supporting her dreams? We invite you to join us.

"Education is important because it transforms a child who has lost hope," Achiro Molly heartfully acknowledges. She should know. Education has given her the power to write her own future.

Through Project Have Hope’s scholastic sponsorship program, Molly received an education and completed a course in teaching, paving the way for her to build a successful future and that success is now paving the way for her younger sisters.

An eager student, Molly always loved going to school. Even at a young age, she saw the power of education. “I wanted to change my family’s story from worse to better,” Molly recalls of her younger days, a feat she has conquered.

Do you believe in the power of education? If so, we implore you to join forces with us so children like Molly can build successful futures and rise above their circumstances.

Did you know that jackfruit is the largest tree fruit in the world? Just one fruit can weigh as much as 110 pounds!

It tastes like a mix of banana, mango and pineapple and grows right in the Acholi Quarter. Afternoon snack anyone? 😆
