Riley County Police Department has activated the Emergency Accident Reporting Phase or EARP. When EARP is in effect, motorists do not need to report crashes immediately as long as they meet all of the criteria below.

Crashes must be reported within 48 hours of occurrence. To report a crash after the EARP period is lifted, you need to come to the Riley County Police Department located at 1001 S Seth Child Road in Manhattan.
All parties involved will need to be present when reporting the crash.
* No injuries to any parties involved
* No hit-and-run
* No driving under the influence (DUI) or suspected alcohol/drug-related crimes
* Insurance and contact information are exchanged between responsible parties
* Property damage is over $1,000 (If it is under $1,000, you do not need to report it to the police)

If there are injuries, a hit-and-run, or DUI, then you should call the police immediately to report the crash.

✅Plug space heaters directly into the wall outlet and turn off when you leave or go to sleep.

❌Do NOT plug space heaters into power strips or extension cords. Using an extension cord with high wattage appliances can start a fire.

✋Keep anything that can burn at least 3ft from heating equip (furnace, fireplace, wood stove, portable heater).

A personal auto client based in Louisiana discovered what he thought was smoke coming from under the hood of his vehicle. As soon as he could safely do so, he exited the roadway to avoid causing any traffic issues or accidents. He pulled into a private drive to investigate. The issue turned out to be a transmission fluid leak, which ultimately leaked onto the newly paved concrete driveway. The fluid could not be cleaned up, leaving a significant stain. The cost for repair and replacement was over $7,000.

The carrier denied the damages to the vehicle as mechanical failure, which the agent agrees with. However, the carrier is also denying the damages to the driveway, as it was not an accident but was due to mechanical failure.
