Last night Mr. Anthony saw one of our junior members looking disappointed and took initiative to approach the student and asked him what was wrong. The student said that he didn’t do good on his planks during the class. Mr. Anthony encouraged the student to try and that he would try with him. As the next class was preparing to start with the senior students, they saw this and joined in. Even one our parents joined in. THIS IS THE WAY! Thank you Mr. Anthony Bo KyoSa Nim for your leadership, support, and most of all your presence! THIS IS DANGSUDO!

Can’t believe that today already marks one year since the passing of my original SaBom Nim.

Chang Tong In, KwanJang Nim (Dan Bon #6694)…my first SaBom Nim. He accepted me as a student at the age of 9/10 years old around 1990/91. I trained under his guidance until 2017 when he retired. I learned many things from him. I was the youngest instructor when I reached Sa Dan (4th Dan), teaching 2 days/8 classes per week. He asked me if I wanted a dojang one day. From that moment, he molded me into the instructor I am today. I learned how to teach beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels of all ages. He was tough. It wasn’t always easy. “Tough love” was mostly in full affect with him. At times, it was hard to understand his ways, but I stuck it out. It was worth it and I’m glad I never quit. It made me mentally and physically strong. All the things you need to be in life. After he closed the school and retired, we had some differences and unfortunately grew apart. I wish he would’ve seen my efforts in keeping his legacy and Dangsudo alive. Despite this, I’ve always honored and respected him as my original SaBom Nim. His photos remain on my dojang walls. Stories about him are always told to my students. Chang KwanJang Nim was a staple and pioneer in the Dangsudo world. He was among the first who settled in NJ and spread the art he dedicated his life too. Everyone knows and will forever remember “Master Chang.”

Happy Monday!! We had a successful Gup Test this past weekend. Congratulations on everyone’s promotion. Now…too keep climbing the mountain and preparing for the next test. Senior members & Black Belts are encouraged to show their leadership and seniority and be present during classes to assist with introducing new material to the students. This is the way!
