We held our appreciation luncheon this afternoon for our wonderful volunteers who put in 10 or more hours with us in the past year. Our volunteers make it possible for this place to exist.
Some quick facts about our volunteer program (June 1, 2023 through March 30, 2024):
180 total volunteers ranging in age from 9 to 87
7,475 hours donated (equal to almost 7 full time employees)
$134,550 in savings to the Community Center in staffing costs

This organization is incredibly lucky to have such a talented staff to run our programs, cut the grass, drive the vans, change the reader board, share resources, support our volunteers, cover the rental events, clean the bathrooms, pay the bills, and keep the Director from messing stuff up!

The Community Center is proud to announce that Duane Baus has earned the title of "Senior of the Year" for his many volunteer activities. Duane is one of our Bingo callers, spends one day a week at Tahoma National Cemetary honoring our veterans being laid to rest, and is involved in collecting coats for needy kids through the Knights of Columbus.
Make sure to get a good seat on June 8th as Duane will be riding in the Maple Valley Days parade.

The Community Center is honored that the Transition Programs from the Tahoma and Kent School Districts chose our main hall to host their 2024 Transitions Gala tonight.
The Transitions program consists of 18-21 year old special education students who are preparing to "transition" out of the school environment into adult society. We couldn't be prouder to be a partner with this amazing program.
Our hats are off to the school staff, parents and volunteers who make this event possible. They are pictured here turning our main hall into a setting that these young people will remember forever.

We had a lot of fun this afternoon hosting our Mothers Day Tea. We had fancy hats, finger foods, and, of course tea.
Great job by our staff and volunteers who made sure that our senior Moms were celebrated for being Moms.
