Muddy Pug Farm & Animal Sanctuary
Bringing our community together, providing sanctuary, healing and hope for all. We are a registered 501(c)3 organization based in Washington.
Our mission is to provide respite, recovery and re-connection to animals and people alike in our farm community. We take in and care for our permanent resident farm animals, with a focus on providing them with the care, love and healing they need...for the rest of their lives. As we evolve, we look forward to developing spaces for the community to gather and connect for recovery, counseling, and creating community.
Yumi is still down, but has regained her appetite. She is enjoying her mush, belly rubs and pats to keep her rumen moving. But sadly, still not able to stand. We continue to monitor her closely. Thank you everyone for your good thoughts and prayers.
Friends, over the years, we have had a lot of changes to the Sanctuary.
For those of you just joining us, or who might not get to see this beautiful place in person, here we are.
Your support makes our work possible.

Come tour The Muddy Pug! Friends, over the years, we have had a lot of changes to the Sanctuary. For those of you just joining us, or who might not get to see this beautiful place in...
Good morning from the Back Pasture! This area has evolved over the years. From housing swoosh and Cupid as yearlings, to a space for seniors, to the place for those who need a slower and quieter pace. We are both intentional and flexible to ensure the set up and resident areas meet everyone’s needs. We awoke today to find the back pasture peaceful and our sweet residents ready to start the day. This is why we Sanctuary. Your support makes our work possible. With so much love from The Muddy Pug. To support our work, please head to muddypugfarm.org and hit the Donate button to be a hero to animals in need.
Friends, September is su***de prevention and awareness month. You may already know that people who work in rescues and sanctuaries have just as high a risk of self harm as first responders. We have seen an increasingly sad trend of sanctuary, founders, operators, and teammates having to justify why they are taking time away from their sanctuaries. Just as all of you fine people need a break from the day to day, that is especially true of sanctuary teammates. The work that we do is challenging on so many levels, and getting away from the sanctuary is critical to our overall mental health. And yet we see sanctuary teammates that have to go onto social media and explain why they posted pictures of themselves at dinners, vacations, or other places away from the sanctuary. Sometimes the subtext of peoples comments includes “this is too nice for someone like you.” As many sanctuary founders pour their personal finances and open their homes and lives to this work, it is both shocking and sad that our community is put in the position to have to defend doing nice things away from the Sanctuary. We would kindly challenge you to consider if you would be just as willing to send such a message to your favorite activist organization, environmental organization, a social services organization, or any number of worthy nonprofits, whose executive directors and teammates get to do things on their personal time with their personal money. If you are concerned about the ongoing care that occurs on a sanctuary, we would highly recommend that you donate or volunteer on a sanctuary to assist. Stay kind to each other out there, friends. Life is tough, but it is less so when we are kind to each other. With so much love from The Muddy PugPS. Friends, we pause our normally scheduled content to share our perspective on some seriously NOT ok treatment of a disabled, Native American woman at the recent show. We love love love this band and the show was amazing. And the way the men attending this show treated this woman was not remotely ok. As a woman of mixed race, I can’t tell you how many times o have been told I don’t belong, I shouldn’t be where I am, and if something g happens to me in a place I don’t “belong” it’s my fault. We’ll resume our normal programming tomorrow. For today, let’s take care of each other. Always.Slipknot
Lily is doing amazing! Lily was rescued from an FFA kid who advertised her as “pick her up and eat her for dinner.” Lily was dropped off in a cardboard box. Her prior owner’s only goodbye was “let me know how she tastes.” Lily is thriving and clucking around with Calla and Iris. We are so glad she wound up here instead of on a plate. This is why we Sanctuary. Your support makes our work possible. Head to muddypugfarm.org to donate and be a hero to animals like Lily. With so much love from The Muddy Pug
Friends! Thank you to everyone who joined us for Summer Supper. The evening in the Sanctuary was idyllic and the catering by was so delicious. We raised over $1000 to help with our fall hay purchase and shared how a vegan diet can be a delicious and compassionate way to help animals. This is why we Sanctuary. Your support makes our work possible. With so much love from The Muddy Pug
Friends, we are so incredibly grateful to each and everyone of you that donated towards our biannual hay purchase. We secured 14 tons of hay for a cost of nearly $7500. High-quality Hay is one of the most important investments that we make towards our residents’ health. Thank you for supporting our work! With so much love from The Muddy Pug
Those eyes! Those teefs! It is hard to believe these gentle giants were once four months old freshly weaned calves.
Swoosh and Cupid suffered a fate common to male calves. Thrown away just days old, and taken from their mama cows to slaughter, someone picked them up and threw them in a backyard to “fatten them up” for slaughter. Unfortunately, baby cows need their mamas milk, and Swoosh and Cupid were basically starving.
The great Barbara Jamison picked them up and brought them to PSGR. They were bottle fed until weaned, and then Barbara did something amazing.
She convinced a single mom of two (me) just starting her sanctuary with (hopefully just two) goats to instead take on four goats and two sweet calves. The rest is history.
We love these two immensely.
This is why we Sanctuary.

There can only ever be one Ruby.
Ruby came to us like many female goats, her body was broken from endless breeding for goat milk. She has a congenital issue that makes kissing very difficult. And her last kidding resulted in stillborn babies and left Ruby partially paralyzed.
When she first came to us, she dragged her back legs noticeably. She is still a bit stiff but diligent care over the last five years allows her to truck around the back pasture with Yumi, Keiko and the rest of the herd.
Ruby loves a good scratch, bananas, and her morning graining.
YOUR support helps us give her the best forever home possible.

Friends, to celebrate our five years of bringing residents onto The Muddy Pug, for the next several months we will be sharing the individual stories of our residents and how they came to call The Muddy Pug their best forever home.

Friends, we are excited to bring you our next installment of One Day I want to Have a Farm Sanctuary by the awesome team at Cloven Heart Farm Sanctuary.
Getting people to care about the work we do as a Sanctuary is more difficult that it looks, and even beyond that, how does one find volunteers and people to help?!?
In this episode, Jen will share how some up front work can help draw the right supporters AND volunteers. And you’ll hear what Jen WON’T do to get 1 million followers.
Shouts out to the other Sanctuaries we feature in this episode including Rooster Haus Rescue and Heartwood Haven.
Thank you to everyone who supports our work!

Today is such a special day for us as we celebrate 5 years and a very happy gotcha day to Yumi, Ruby, Keiko and YoYo 🌈. The Muddy Pug has been saving lives for 5 years and I could not be more proud of our work, our team, and our mission. Friends, I am living proof that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to. Don’t ever let someone tell you that you can. Trust me. You can. This is why we Sanctuary. Grateful for every single person that support our work. With so much love from The Muddy Pug
Friends! We are looking forward to seeing you on The Muddy Pug for Summer Supper, our end of summer benefit catered by our dear friends at ! Tickets on EventBrite. See you on The Sanctuary!
We would so appreciate your support as we fund our bi-annual hay purchase.
While hay costs have skyrocketed over the last few years, we have responded by doing everything possible to preserve and manage our hay supply more effectively. We have done so well- thanks to Amber Moffatt and our amazing volunteers - that we have reduced our hay consumption from 40 tons for a cost of $20k a year to 15 tons for a cost of $15k.
We take stewardship of our donations so, so seriously, and so appreciate your support!
You can donate by heading to muddypugfarm.org/donate.

We are so happy to share that Princess and Arlo are getting along well and having great fun on the sanctuary now that the property is fully fenced and they have their amazing FI collars
Especially awesome is to see Princess being so playful and enjoying her time outside.
This is why we Sanctuary.
We are looking for monthly sponsors for both Princess and Arlo as our dog food bill has doubled with two large, active LGD’s.

Friends, we are excited to bring you another segment from the wonderful book,
One Day I Want to Have a Farm Sanctuary, but the team at the ClovenHeart Farm Sanctuary.
In this segment, Mean People Suck (and boy they do!), we’ll share our experience in stepping forward into social media and engagement with the public. Social media is a rough and tumble place, even for a farm sanctuary, and we’ll share how we have survived and thrived in this space.
Thank you all for your support!

Haaaaaaay! We would so appreciate your support towards our now bi-annual hay order, coming August 12th!
We have worked so hard to stretch our hay supply and be great stewards for our residents. What used to be over $20k in hay purchases has been managed to $15k with increasing oversight and hay conservation.
We take your support seriously and stretch every dollar donated as far as it can go. Our founder has personally donated the first $5k and we are working towards raising the last $2500 by August 12th for our hay delivery. I know we can do it!
This is why we Sanctuary.

Sam, Clarice and 🌈Dakota🌈 are some of our luckiest residents. They came to us from a loving home@where their owners experienced a medical@emergency and were not physically able to care for them anymore. It is rare that residents come to us well cared for. For these three, we had an opportunity to continue to provide them the love, care and community that they were used to.
This is why we Sanctuary.
