Silva Music

They say music is a science, yes! Pythagoras is considered to have created the theory of music by combining intervals and mathematical calculations to create notes for the major scale. But perhaps only Leonard Bernstein, in his famous Harvard speech, [ The Unanswered Question 1973 ] truly explained why and how. Through his explanation of the harmonic series, he demonstrated the scientific basis of music theory.

However, he also noted something profound:

"What we calculate and explain or try to explain through music theory of Pythagoras, only appreciators of Indian music can feel it, they can demonstrate any mood through their scales, which they call Raaga. And a Raaga is not just a scale; it's something more. If you can't appriciate or feel it, it will put you to sleep in a few minutes. "

After observing how a harmonic series and a conch shell are similar, I feel that this connection and our ancient understanding of music may lead to this deeper understanding. Our ancestors understood everything before the father of music theory, Pythagoras.

The only word that is comeing to my mind after watching this picture is PANCHAJANYA.

Fall 2023 Registration is open! Fall Term at Silva Music Studios begins Monday, August 21. We will try to keep your teacher the same as last year if possible. Choose your top 3 days and try to give us a time frame. Click on the Registration Form to fill out, text or email it back to us. You may find the Calendar, Tuition and Studio Policy in the documents section of studio social website and duplicated on the Student Portal at silvamusic.org.

Changes this coming year:

1. Mr. Justin will be appointed as Music Teacher at Tucker Middle School and sadly, he will be leaving his private students for this exciting job position. We will all miss him dearly and wish him much success!

2. Mr. Dorian’s teaching schedule will be disrupted temporarily to complete duties with the Georgia National Guard for a month in August where he will be deployed to the Republic of Georgia and in December, will be deployed to Kuwait for a year. He plans to return to teach cello and piano and help run the studio operations. We will see him off and on until the longer deployment with a concert or two coming up!

3. We are welcoming our new violin, viola and piano teacher, Mariya Tsvetkova. We will formally introduce her as soon as we put together all her information. She comes to us with years of experience and European training and are very fortunate to have her join our faculty. Some of our students will be fortunate enough to begin learning violin with her this coming term!

The students of both teachers will be redistributed to Dr. Silva, Mrs. Silva, Dr. Guo and Mrs. Tsvetkova based on playing level and schedule availability that matches the students’ preferences and teacher availability at those times. We will negotiate this together and make it work!

Kudos to my esteemed professor Walter Cosand- I discovered this while trying to fix a problem with my AirTurn 500. Of course, we know about his amazing collection of scores and it’s great to see the link out there (find it on our website, too!). No, I have not been able to fix the FATAL error and am now resorting to hacking.

Photos with Pianist and Pearl River/Kayserburg/Ritumuller brand representative after his May 9th evening Recital at Silva Music Studios. What a wonderful, inspired performance and it was a real treat for the audience and the excellent dialogue we experienced! David's artistry showed the beauty, power and musical depth of the KA212 grand piano. The next day, he tried the brand new Ritmuller grand and upright pianos, the Kayserburg and Pearl River uprights that we (pianists and piano instructors) hand-picked for a lucky new owner!
