Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, Marietta
A faith community in Marietta on a mission to deepen people’s relationship with Jesus and each other.
Our mission is to deepen people's relationship with Jesus Christ and each other. Lutheran Church of the Resurrection belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). The ELCA is a church that belongs to Christ, whose unity is in Jesus Christ, who gathers us around word and water, wine and bread. The good news of Jesus Christ liberates us and gives us the freedom and courage to wonder, discover and boldly participate in what God is up to in the world!

Still offering comfort in turbulent times
For many years Bob Wills flew as a pilot for Eastern Airlines providing comfort in the sometimes turbulent skies. He has been woodworking for a long time but got serious about cabinet making after he retired. You can see Bob’s handiwork around the church, including some of the office furniture. His latest piece started as a sound board cabinet back in 2007 and found new life recently when it repurposed into a votive candle stand.
Present in many cathedrals across Europe and Catholic churches in the U.S., the act of lighting a candle in memory, honor, or prayer for a person or pray request is a powerful spiritual practice. Especially in turbulent times, it can remind us of the promise of Jesus’ presence with us. Like the writer of John’s gospel shares, “What has come into being in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.” (John 1:4-5)
As more candles are lit, we are also reminded of the gift of the church, the Body of Christ, standing with us, supporting us. Finally, we are reminded that as baptized children of God our calling is to let our light “so shine before others” that they may see our good works and give glory to our Father in heaven.
HOW TO USE THE VOTIVE CANDLE STAND
You are invited to light a candle as a way to physically memorialize a prayer request...in memory of a loved one who has died, to seek wisdom for a looming decision, in gratitude for a recent blessing.
Light a candle, share a prayer, watch the candle for a few moments. Even if you don’t light a candle yourself, stop by to add to the prayers of others.
(Pictured above: Bob and Dianne Wills have been part of LCR since 1983. Here they stand next to the new Votive Candle stand Bob constructed.)
Help us fill the wagon!
Look for the red wagon in the hallway across from the Gathering Room doors every Sunday to drop off needed non-perishable food items (cereal, pasta, pasta sauce, 1 or 2 pound bags of rice, ramen noodles, and peanut butter) for MUST Ministries.
"As we engage in our ministry together, we find solace in the knowledge that our God is a God of second chances, of restoration, and of boundless love."

Gracious God, as we celebrate the gift of freedom, we pray for those in our communities, our nation and our world who still experience oppression, persecution or inequality. Forgive us for the ways in which we deliberately or unconsciously exert or support control over others for our own benefit or advantage. Guide us to exercise our freedom responsibly and compassionately for the well-being of all people.

Would you break the rules for love?
LCR is part of the ELCA, a national network of Lutheran Churches with over 8,000 congregations. Regionally, we are part of the Southeastern Synod, composed of ELCA congregations in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, and Tennessee.
Every year clergy and lay representatives from each congregation of the synod gather for an assembly to vote on a budget, hear stories from around the synod and ELCA, and tend to other legislative issues. This year the Synod Assembly took place in Columbus, GA. Here are a few pictures from the assembly...

Ever wonder what righteous anger actually looks like?
Jesus' powerful actions in the temple show us just that. Jesus was redeeming a physical space of worship, but how do you also keep your heart sacred?
Sandy O’Donnell took 47 baby blanket and hat sets to Northside Hospital last week for the Special Care Nursery (NICU).
Many hours of knitting and crocheting by the Knitters for Peace and much love were put into each item made.
God moves in our lives in ways that we can EXPERIENCE!
Our LCR Promise Gardeners have been harvesting armloads of produce for The Community Assistance Center Food Pantry in Sandy Springs. Over the last six weeks our team has donated 216 lbs. of kale, lettuce, Swiss chard, mustard greens, radishes, peas, spinach, herbs and more!
Prayers of thankfulness for our great weather, soil and volunteers!
