MACS PLLC is pleased to welcome and introduce Emilee Futrell, LCMHCA, LCASA to our Therapist Community and provide her information for new referrals.

Emilee has experience working with young adult and adult individuals with mood disorders, anxiety, relationship issues, athletes and sports related concerns, as well as LGBTQIA+ issues. She also has worked with clients who have experienced trauma in many forms. She also works with athletes at all levels and recognizes the specific challenges that this community faces.

Emilee believes every client is different and may benefit from a slightly different approach, which is why she alters her skills for each specific client. She is being trained and supervised in Dialectical Behavior Therapy at MACS and works in collaboration with the DBT team. She practices Solution Focused Therapy, Object Relations Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Person-Centered Therapy. Emilee approaches therapy from a holistic, strength-based, and client centered model. She believes that for therapy to be effective the client must find comfort and safety within the therapeutic space. She enjoys working together with clients to assist them in reaching their goals, working through setbacks, and celebrating their successes.

Emilee accepts Aetna, BCBS, Cigna, Medcost, MHN, Out of Network, and Self Pay.

Emilee sees clients in person in our Mint Hill office and Virtually with afterschool and evening availability.

National Transgender Children Day, observed on October 26 every year, is a day to honor and acknowledge all transgender children who have long been β€˜hiding in the closet’ and cannot, for whatever reason, β€˜come out.’ It is a day to open your arms and welcome these children and let them feel included in the family and community. Transgender children are less likely to announce their gender status as compared to transgender adults. This is because their survival is mainly dependent on their parents’ reactions to their declaration. Hence, parents should strive to be more understanding to them from this day onward.

10/25/2023

Let’s be honest: We could easily make a case that National I Care About You Day should sit atop a list of the most important days of the year. Why? Though it was only started in 2016, what other holiday more perfectly speaks to the human condition? Money’s nice to have. Vacations are fun. And driving around in a new car makes us feel good β€” temporarily. None of it matters at the end though. Without love (both romantic and platonic), friendships, and/or family β€” we’re doomed.

Humans are wired for relationships. We thrive when we’re connected and feel lonely (or worse) when we’re disconnected. No amount of money can make your emotional pain heal. But friends can. Or at least they can help. So many of us crave β€œnovelty,” but by its very definition, it can only last for a limited time. Suddenly you don’t even realize you’re driving that (once) new car. And ancient ruins begin to look the same starting around day 5 of your trip to Greece. Material things can’t possibly do what other people can do.

The health experts at Northwestern University have pinpointed some of the positive effects of healthy relationships. For instance, being in a committed relationship is linked to less production of cortisol, a stress hormone. Good relationships can promote better healing, as research suggests married people who have undergone heart surgery are three times more likely to survive the first three months after surgery than single patients.

Healthy relationships set the perfect tone for an overall healthy lifestyle. They give us a greater sense of purpose. It’s natural for humans to want to feel needed, and like they’re part of something bigger. And it can even extend our lives! Research indicates that having healthy social relationships makes a bigger impact on avoiding an early demise than taking blood pressure medication or being exposed to air pollution. One study even suggests that a lack of social relationships has the same effect on health as smoking 15 ci******es a day. Ugh.

So reach out on October 25th. It will make your life better and may make someone else’s better too.

Have you ever felt overwhelmed, anxious, or just needed someone to talk to about what's going on in your life? You're not alone. In fact, a lot of famous people like Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, and even Prince Harry have been open about their experiences with therapy. (image from Twitter)

It's becoming more accepted and even celebrated to seek help for mental health. And it's not just for people who have serious mental health issues. Therapy can be helpful for anyone who wants to improve their overall mental and emotional well-being.

Accessing mental health care at a private practice is a privilege that not everyone can afford. As we continue to raise awareness about the importance of mental health and to advocate for access to mental health services for everyone, we also encourage those who have the opportunity to take advantage of mental health care to reach out today.

One of the benefits of therapy is having an objective person to talk to who won't judge you and will keep your confidentiality. This means you can be open and honest about your feelings and concerns without worrying about what anyone else will think.

It can be especially tough to navigate all the changes and pressures that come from adolescence and early adulthood. Whether it's dealing with school stress, friendships, family issues, or mental health concerns, therapy can provide a safe and supportive space to talk about what's going on and get guidance on how to handle it.

So don't be afraid to reach out for help. It's a brave and important step to take. MACS has licensed therapists who want to help you. And remember, it's okay to not be okay sometimes. You're not alone, and there is help available. You can text us, email us or contact us via our website. 704-286-6227, [email protected] or scan the QR code.

Struggling with anxiety or depression? You're not alone. Depression is at epidemic levels. At McCloud Acosta Clinical Services PLLC, our therapists are here to help you navigate your emotions and develop healthy coping strategies.
