Garr Church is now Greater Life Church! We are all about CONNECTING others with Christ!
The heritage of Greater Life Church... Garr Church began in a Charlotte tent revival in 1930 led by Dr. Alfred Garr who was baptized in the Holy Spirit at Azuza Street! We are a FAMILY of Christ Followers that enjoy doing life together by Connecting in Worship, Community, and Service.
In honor of Gene Pressley, this is the Garr Choir singing "God is Good All the Time" in 1999.

Memorial Service for Rev. Robert "Bob" & Cathy McSwain, Monday, June 13th, 2:00 pm at Greater Life Church.
Bob & Cathy served Garr Church for over 40 years. Bob served as the Sunday School superintendent, Boy Scout troop leader, and spent many summers on the staff at Camp Lurecrest pointing generations of young people to Christ! Ultimately, Bob served as the minister to senior adults, whom he faithfully provided pastoral care for till God called him home.
Cathy, as well as supporting and serving alongside Bob, served as an elementary school librarian at Wilmore Elementary, Beverly Woods Elementary, and Irwin Avenue Open School. Cathy was often recognized for creative storytelling and for her acting ability.

Danny Blue (Doug Blue's brother) went home to be with Jesus this past Tuesday, February 10th. Danny's love for the Lord and his kindness and generosity impacted many lives. Our dear brother, Don Lutrick went home to be with the Lord on September 30th. I believe Don was the longest living member of Garr Church before his passing… 84 years! Don gave his life to getting God’s Word into the hands of people all over the world, and The Word Himself came for Don to take him home. What a reunion heaven has been experiencing these past few years!

After a battle with prostate cancer, Barney Lisk went home to be with Jesus last night (Friday). Barney was a long time member of Garr Church and sang in the choir, did recordings & media work for services, and pitched for the men’s softball team well into his retirement years. He will be dearly missed!

Our Story
Garr Church was birthed out of a Pentecostal revival that began on Mother’s Day, May 11, 1930 in a tent meeting with Dr. Alfred G. Garr. After experiencing the life-changing power of the Holy Spirit at the Azusa Street Revival in 1906, Dr. Garr took the message of Greater Power all over the world, and that mission eventually led him to Charlotte, N.C.
Through the years God has used this church to transform thousands of lives with the Gospel, preparing hundreds to answer God’s Call, birthing ministries all over the world! And one of those ministries was Mint Hill Community Church, planted in 2012 by Andrew Byrd, a young man who grew up at Garr Church.
On May 7th, 2017, Garr Church and Mint Hill Community Church came together to form Greater Life Church, believing God for Greater things! While history is littered with stories of unsuccessful mergers, ours is an amazing story of God bringing people together in unity and love to experience the “Greater things” Jesus offered in John 14:12 and share GREATER LIFE with our community and the world!
Our mission is to: GATHER in the presence of God and one another; that we might GROW in relationship with God and one another; and GO empowered by God to reach others!
