She is a shining example of leadership and commitment within the Hispanic Women’s Network of Texas. As the recipient of the prestigious Estrella de Tejas Award, she has demonstrated profound dedication to her chapter and community. This honor reflects her influential contributions and the high regard in which she is held by her peers. Congratulations!

It is a great pleasure to announce that Dr. Eloisa Garcia Taméz has been chosen as the 2024 HWNT Trailblazer recipient. Dr. Garcia Taméz, with Lipian Apache, Comanche, and Hispanic heritage, was raised in a traditional indigenous community. She is a civil rights leader known for her advocacy against discriminatory practices and her fight for fair treatment of marginalized families in southern Texas. Revered in her community as “La Chata prieta y justa,” she is a retired U.S. Army Colonel, a military veteran, and a key figure in healthcare and nursing roles. Dr. Taméz co-founded the Lipan Apache Women Defense organization to address human rights violations related to border wall construction. With multiple degrees, various awards, and ongoing contributions to healthcare and academia, she stands out in her field. HWNT is honored to recognize her as this year's Trailblazer Award recipient. Join the Hispanic Women’s Network of Texas (HWNT) RGV Chapter us on Saturday, May 18 to honor and celebrate the "Latinas in Progress" Class of 2024 during a scholarship luncheon at The Radisson Hotel- McAllen from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This event is dedicated to recognizing the accomplishments of the students who completed the Latinas in Progress™ (LIP) Education Series, which included five monthly sessions covering essential topics such as College Preparation, Leadership/Assertiveness Training, Life Skills of Wellness & Safety, Financial Responsibility, and Civic Engagement.
We invite our HWNT supporters and business community leaders to join us in empowering the next generation of Latina leaders.
