Max Rombado, Legislative Director with Raise Your Hand Texas, said this about vouchers.
"The reality is this - there is no world in which setting up a dualistic education system is a better strategy than simply investing in our school system which is designed to serve every child. The research is well documented. Basic allotment increases, competitive teacher salaries, full funding for pre-K, and other public-school investments yield the best results for our students. Voucher/ESAs don’t come close to the same effects.

The problem has never been that our public schools are failing… it’s that our school funding system is failing our public schools. Texas for the last five years (at least) has ranked in the bottom ten states for per-pupil funding. Couple low funding with more than 20% inflation in the last five years, and it is no surprise that school districts are being forced to adopt deficit budgets (in same cases even with a VATRE!). Texas teachers make between $10,000 to $15,000 less than the average college educated professional in Texas making it even harder to attract and retain effective teachers. Finally, Pre-K is one of the most studied and effective early learning interventions that prepares students for success throughout their entire career. Yet Texas continues to fund pre-K at a half-day basis despite requiring ISDs to service pre-K full-day.

The future of Texas will always be in our public schools. We cannot continue to ignore the needs of this extremely important system. Vouchers/ESAs will not solve this program. It’s time that Texas Lawmakers do right by our students, families, communities, and this great state. That starts with adequately funding public education. "

According to Max Rombado, Legislative Director for Raise Your Hand Texas, research shows that Education Savings Accounts (school choice or vouchers) have led to substantial budget challenges in states where ESAs have are in use. Vouchers are not the answer!
