**Road Construction Update**

Hwy 64 is drawing near completion, we don't want to jinx it, but we've been informed that American Asphalt should be putting the final layer on Hwy 64 tomorrow (Thursday 7/18). We are asking to have limited traffic or avoid Hwy 64 if possible tomorrow. They are attempting to do the entire stretch. Let's hope for good weather, no break downs, and a smooth work day so they can get this portion of the project complete.

Hwy 13, sadly is still delayed, mother nature has not helped road construction projects this year. Once we get a better idea of where that project is at we will pass along what we find out. There is light at the end of the tunnel now!

Thank you to everyone who participated in our "Guess What the Department of Public Works is Building" posts. Your guesses and enthusiasm made this a fun and engaging event. After week of clues and suspense, we're excited to finally reveal the answer!

Drumroll please

Meet Gilbert, our new friendly neighborhood fisherman errrrr. I mean light pole. Gilbert is affectionately named after the first train engineer (Abe Gilbert) that traveled through our area in July 1873 and basically put Medford on the map! Gilbert will find a home along the Riverwalk and spend his days catching fishes! Perhaps someday he will have some more little friends joining him along the path.

Congrats to Diane Heier and John Paulson for correctly guessing a light pole. We also want to shout out the creative guesses made by others including the Tin Man holding a flag, a canopy, and a swinging bench. Your imaginative interpretations added a lot of fun.

Thank you all for participating and stay tuned for more updates and projects from the Department of Public Works. Gilbert and the entire team look forward to brightening up our community

Happy National Workaholics Day, National Graham Cracker Day, and National Apple Turnover Day city dwellers! 🍏🚃

Today's forecast! Work hard, snack harder! Whether you're crunching numbers or crunching on graham crackers, take a turnover break because all work and no play makes Jack a dull, hungry, and frankly slightly overworked city dweller. 🍎😅

Remember, it's perfectly acceptable to sneak a graham cracker or two (or ten) at your desk today. It's like the work-life balance version of "breakfast for dinner" but with a twist - dessert for workday! 🍰✅ So go ahead, take that break, indulge in some apple turnover goodness, and celebrate these uniquely random holidays in the most city-slicker way possible.

Cheers to being productive, well-fed, and slightly amused by the wonderfully bizarre holidays that pop up on our calendars!

Today's Friday Funny: Why did the graham cracker refuse to work overtime? Because it was already "cracking" under the pressure. 🤣. Have a great weekend city residents!!

Happy Friday city residents. We hope you're navigating June's monsoon with style, grace and a sturdy umbrella while road construction keeps the neighborhood lively (and still only slightly inconvenient). Good news: the orange sidewalk barriers are finally.gone!!! Let the sidewalk strolls begin. Here's hoping July brings sunshine and warmth to make up for this rainy business.

Some rain humor: Why do you see cows lying down in the rain? To keep each udder dry 🤣.

Have a fantastic weekend urban dwellers!!

Welcome to the weekend City residents. Today is National Take Your Dog to Work Day 🐾🐾 (truly a thing and no – we didn’t make it up😂), It’s also summer solstice 🌞, which marks the longest day of the year. Speaking of which, have you noticed how the universe seems to have a peculiar sense of humor? Just as we are gearing up for the summer solstice – you know, the magical day when we’re supposed to be frolicking under the sun like carefree beach bums – we’ve been dodging raindrops like undercover spies. It’s like the skies are saying “hold your sunscreen folks, here’s another round of water balloons”.

I imagine the sun is up there somewhere, probably pondering us too, tapping its watch, wondering if it should send us a memo about its expected appearance schedule. Meanwhile here we are left contemplating whether to invest in waterproof sandals or a small ark. But hey let’s not lose hope, every cloud has a silver lining. Perhaps all this rain is nature’s way of ensuring we appreciate the rare moments of sunshine even more. Plus, think of the epic stories we will have about surviving the great June Monsoon of 2024. Until then, stay dry, stay cheerful and remember, if life gives you rain, make splashy dance moves.

And, for a bit of Friday humor: Why did the vegetable garden throw a party on summer solstice? Because it wanted to “turnip” the heat and celebrate the longest “thyme” of the year.

Wishing you sunshine and laughter (eventually)

Good Morning MEDFORD! Who would have thought that the giant, bright, warm thing in the sky would grace us with its presence for two days in a row? Maybe if we're lucky we can enjoy it for a third day.

As you may have seen yesterday's post, our road construction is still moving along. Yes, they're behind, but with the torrential rains we've been having, it's a wonder they haven't sprouted gills. 🤣

Let's not forget Father's Day is this weekend. It's a perfect opportunity to celebrate all the wonderful fathers, and father figures in our lives. Whether it's a simple gesture or a grand celebration make sure to show them how much they mean to you.

Time for your Friday funny: Why did the construction worker bring a wheelbarrow to the job interview?

Because he wanted to "pave" his was to success!!

Cheers to smoother roads, clearer skies, and the promise of brighter days ahead, topped off with a heartfelt celebration of Father's Day. Have a great weekend city residents!

Here we are, 6 solid weeks into what has yet to become horribly horrible. We figured you all might be wondering how it's going.

UPDATE: our city is under road construction, in case you couldn't tell
UPDATE: they're behind schedule
UPDATE: no one has been injured thus far. So keep giving them a brake, they're getting closer to done with every single day
UPDATE: milling will start on Hwy 13 the week of the 17th, it won't start on 64 until after the 4th of July holiday
UPDATE: the new sidewalks look nice
UPDATE: we are pretty sure the attachment is not of workers on our roads. We have yet to see any of them dancing

When we know more we will share!

Welcome to the weekend City residents! We continue our way through Just Mow it June and wonder, are we mowing the grass, or just spraying massive volumes of water from one part of the lawn to the next? Either way, we notice, and so do your neighbors, so keep on mowing that water/grass!

As the rain poured down on Monday, one VERY dedicated lawn mower man mowed his way through City Hall lawn and got it looking beautiful again. That man puts in a 40-hour week on a zero-turn mower keeping our parks and property looking spectacular, come rain, sleet, hail, and shine. Alongside his 40-hour week there are two summer help employees that spend 25 hours per week (each), with a w**d whacker attached to their backpack harness keeping the trimming at bay. 90 hours to keep our parks pristine, 90!!

Today is National Chocolate Ice Cream Day and National Doughnut Day. A doughnut ice cream sandwich sounds good right about now; maybe some of our local businesses could collaborate to make that a limited menu item YUM.

Sunday is the 39th Annual Taylor County Dairy Breakfast held at the fairgrounds starting at 6:30am.

Friday's funny: Why did the lawnmower get a promotion?

Because it always knew to "grass-p" opportunities 🤣.

Have a great weekend City!

Happy Friday City Residents, we are officially exiting No Mow May and running head first into Just Mow it June (not really a thing, but let's make it a thing!) To help with the visual of mowing we've attached a picture from a city resident of the proper way to mow along the roads. Grass in the street clogs up the sanitary lines and is an extreme slipping hazard for motorcyclists.

We are also entering June Dairy Month and the start of many delicious dairy breakfasts. Ice cream for breakfast . . . YES PLEASE!!

This weekend there is a car show on Main Street on Saturday starting at 10:00 am and a Kids Free Fishing Clinic at Lake Esadore beginning at 8:30 am. Looks to be a great weekend to get out and mow your lawn 😂(thought we'd throw that in there again in case you missed the first hint) 😉

Friday's Fun - who wants to take a guess at how many hours it takes to mow the City Parks and property each week? Bonus if you'd also like to guess how long it takes to w**d whack each week during the summer. (Answer will be provided on next Friday's post).

Happy Friday City Residents! Last night was the Bandshell ribbon cutting and kickoff to the Kiwanis summer concert series. Performers will be on the stage every Thursday evening through September 5th. It was great to see such an amazing turnout for what we hope will be a fun summer.

Tonight is graduation! Congratulations to all graduating Seniors from Medford Area Senior High School and Rural Virtual Academy! Best of luck in your future endeavors! Tomorrow is the Farmer’s Market and Ruby’s Pantry.

Monday our offices will be closed in observance of Memorial Day. There will be a ceremony hosted by the VFW at the Flag Field on Memorial Day beginning at 10:30am to honor and remember all veterans. Thank you for your service! Our offices will reopen on Tuesday morning at 8:00am; pool passes for 2024 will go on sale beginning at 8:30am on Tuesday, May 28th.

With the holiday on Monday, it also means your garbage pick up service will be one day later than normal. Should you have questions on pickup, a missed pickup or other garbage related questions you can call Waste Management at 888-960-0008.

Friday funny: Why did the graduate never get lost?

Because they always had a degree of direction.
Best of luck to all area graduates!

Lawn mowing season is upon us, with that we would like to send out the remind to not blow your grass clippings into the roadways. This not only creates a hazard on the road, but creates issues at the Wastewater Treatment Plant when they get into the sewer system.
