Let's Welcome Dr. Abbigail Babbidge to TEAM BLISS!

Dr. Babbidge grew up in North Texas but went to college at Oklahoma State University where she earned her undergraduate degree in biochemistry and molecular biology. She then stayed at Oklahoma State to complete her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) in May of 2023. Following graduation, she became a rotating intern at Texas A&M University for one year. This involved working in the ER as well as learning other veterinary specialties such as ophthalmology, surgery, neurology, oncology, etc. Upon completion, she moved to Oregon and is now the Ophthalmology Specialty intern at Bliss Animal Eye Care.

She always wanted to be a veterinarian. However, her interest in ophthalmology was discovered during her first year at vet school. She always found herself amazed by the sections of her classes that discussed the eyes. This caused her to start working at an Ophthalmology practice in Tulsa/Oklahoma City throughout the remainder of her vet school. Outside of work, Abby enjoys spending time with her husband who is in the Air Force along with her 15 year old dog Max. They love to travel, try new foods and go on adventures together.

Meet Drummer, an 8-year-old Beagle who came to Bliss Animal Eye Care with a rapidly growing eyelid mass. While most eyelid masses are benign, some can cause irritation or other issues, making surgical removal necessary. Drummer's mass, just under 1cm, was removed via a wedge resection. Check out his post-op photo—it's like the mass was never there! Wishing Drummer a speedy recovery and awaiting his histopathology report for a definitive diagnosis. 🐾✨

Not every day your patient reads the textbook before their appointment! Jazmin, a 15-year-old Pekinese, came to Bliss Animal Eye Care with some eye issues. Her left eye was red, misaligned, and her eyelids were saggy. Our exam revealed anisocoria, ptosis, and lateral strabismus, suggesting oculomotor nerve dysfunction. This nerve controls certain eye movements and eyelid muscles. Likely causes include idiopathic or neoplastic lesions. Jazmin's age and good quality of life led her owners to skip further testing. Idiopathic oculomotor neuropathy often improves on its own and carries a fair prognosis. Are you a veterinary professional looking for more details?! Check out our group: Veterinary EYE Education

Meet Soup Bone! 🐾 This 12-year-old Pomeranian mix visited Bliss Animal Eye Care for a cataract evaluation. Over the past two years, his eyes became cloudy, especially the left one. Despite no major vision changes, he sometimes barks at invisible things and is less patient with other dogs.

Turns out, Soup Bone has age-related nuclear sclerosis, not cataracts! His cloudy lenses are a normal aging process, similar to why humans need reading glasses as they age. The photos show the tapetal reflection, which helps differentiate between nuclear sclerosis and cataracts.

Soup Bone's anisocoria is due to iris atrophy, making his left eye appear cloudier. The dark spots on his lens are harmless pigment cells, and the hyperreflectivity is age-related retinal degeneration.

Happy to report, Soup Bone left with good news! 🐶✨

Meet Koda, a 4-year-old silver Labrador who came to Bliss Animal Eye Care with a two-day history of squinting and discharge. A foreign body was found deeply embedded in his left cornea. During surgery under general anesthesia, the foreign body was removed, causing a full-thickness corneal wound. A conjunctival graft was placed to aid healing and prevent infection. Wishing Koda a speedy recovery! 🌟👁️💙

Meet Ned, an 18-year-old MN rat terrier cross, who visited Bliss Animal Eye Care for cloudy eyes and vision issues. Ned showed signs of discomfort like squinting and tearing. Exams revealed white mineral deposits in his corneas, diagnosed as corneal mineral degeneration, which is painful and can delay healing. He's now on topical EDTA and antibiotics. We'll recheck in a few weeks to see if he needs surgery. Stay tuned for updates! 🐾👁️

Meet Heidi, a sweet 4-year-old Chinese Shar Pei, who recently visited Bliss Animal Eye Care for squinting in both eyes. After a thorough exam, we ruled out major issues like KCS, glaucoma, and corneal ulcers. It turns out she has entropion, a condition where the eyelids roll inward, causing discomfort. Luckily, Heidi has since had surgery and is on her recovery journey! 💖 More details in our Facebook Group: Veterinary EYE Education!
