The University Schools education model at the University of Memphis is poised to scale up following today’s passage of the Innovative School District Act in the Tennessee General Assembly. Sponsored by Sen. Brent Taylor and Rep. Mark White, the act authorizes the UofM to operate a local education agency as an Innovative School District, the first of its kind in the state.
“The University of Memphis is the only PreK to PhD educational system in Tennessee, and we now have an opportunity to scale what works by empowering the University Schools to become the state’s first Innovative School District,” said UofM President Bill Hardgrave. “This legislation has the potential to impact the lives of thousands of students, and I am excited to see the University of Memphis carry this forward.”

We are excited to welcome back our Tigers tomorrow, Tuesday, January 23, 2024, for in-person learning at all schools! 💙🐯💙

Tomorrow, Monday, January 22, 2024, will be a virtual learning day for the ELRC, Campus School, University Middle School, and University High School.
You will receive an email from your school with specific details of how to access online learning for tomorrow.
We are working with MLGW, University of Memphis Physical Plant, and outside contractors to ensure the water pressure and heat in our buildings allows for safe school occupancy for a hopeful Tuesday return to in-person learning. We know this is not an ideal situation for our families, students, faculty, or staff. However, we also do not want to delay further learning opportunities this semester for our students.
We have worked with St. Luke’s to secure a learning location for up to 40 students on a first come, first served basis. The hours for childcare will be from 9am until 6pm. Any child who currently utilizes St. Luke’s after care will not be charged for the first three days of service (although we hope and anticipate we will be back in the building on Tuesday, January 23, 2024). Families who do not currently utilize St. Luke’s will be charged $50 per day to support their ability to provide this service. If you are interested, please email Sheridan Harris at [email protected].
We will write again tomorrow to provide an update for Tuesday, January 23, 2024.
