From Dr. Monte Cox, Dean of the College of Bible and Ministry, Harding University
I am pleased to announce that Dr. Peter Rice has been named as the next Dean of Harding School of Theology. He is succeeding Dr. Mark Powell who has served us very well for twenty-two years, first as faculty, then as dean. Dr. Rice will be responsible for casting a vision for the future of HST in Searcy and leading the HST faculty and staff.
Peter Rice grew up attending small Churches of Christ in rural Oklahoma. He attended Oklahoma Christian University, earning degrees in Psychology and Vocational Ministry. After graduation, he moved to Japan, where he lived for almost two years, teaching English and serving with the Mito Church of Christ. Feeling a strong desire for more ministry training, he left Japan to pursue the MDiv at ACU. While in Abilene, Peter served as a college minister and met his now-wife Abby. The Rice's moved to Waco where Peter earned his PhD in Biblical Studies at Baylor University. His main areas of study were Luke's writings and intertextuality.
Harding's College of Bible and Ministry hired him as he was finishing his doctoral work in 2013. He has been a beloved teacher and valued colleague ever since. As a member of COBAM, Dr. Rice has taught courses ranging from freshman Bible to Greek 4 to upper-level New Testament textual classes. He and Abby have three children.
We are excited about the HST Reunion in April. Please register if you intend to come. The website page now includes a link to the Holiday Inn (University of Memphis) with a reduced rate. Limited rooms are available--sign up soon.
HST Friends - Mark your calendars!
