Here's a glimpse into what happens during Music Mondays at the NMSF. Students learned to challenge themselves through a therapeutic music session while also tuning out other distractions around them.
After choosing what they wanted to play, they were given a keyboard with letters to show the sound per each key.
This session allowed each participant to learn:
👊🏽The Culture- Students learned a in depth understanding of music and where it comes from.
👊🏽Critical Thinking Skills - Students learned to process the sounds and analyzed what they've been listening to.
👊🏽The Expression Talk - Students learned to communicate what and how they felt about what was heard.
👊🏽The Confident Buster- Students tried playing the sounds with little guidance around others while tuning out distractions around them.
Music is ART, and art is therapeutic. We love learning and exposing our students and their families to the world of Arts, and how it can be therapeutic for the healing journey.
We are conducting coping through the arts sessions for ages 4 thru senior citizens throughout 2024 and can't wait to have you and your family join our 2025 sessions.

Something to know:
There's something very therapeutic about dancing. It's called Dance movement therapy, and it can be effective in the healing process for someone who has experienced sexual abuse. The process of dance movement therapy brings a sense of life within the body and mind which help leads to healing for survivors.

City of Memphis Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris
Often times the abuse is silent and goes unheard of for years. A survivor then gains the strength and the courage to SPEAK UP- only to be told they are lying. Listen in on this dramatic monologue as it shares how the abuse was happening and what the survivor of the story thought she should do when no one believed she was telling the truth.
