The Millet House
Art Gallery, Books & Community Space in Mesa, Arizona Many members of the Millet House Art Collective come to us from such situations. And thank you!
The historic adobe Millet House, located in Mesa, Arizona, holds an art gallery, a community gathering space, and a mobile library. Members of the Millet House Art Collective focus on a variety of types of art, from acrylic painting through carved indigenous masks through beaded bracelets, but much of our art has a Southwestern flavor. The Millet House has always served homeless/formerly homeless
Some more photos to add from today. Toni Miller gave us such a great gift with this class! She made it so easy to learn, and gave us all so much individual time and instruction. Hopefully we can have her do another before years end!
We had an incredible time here at The Millet House today. Toni Miller led a wire wrapping workshop. Who knew I could make something so beautiful?! Attendees ranged from complete newbies to experienced jewelry makers. The pace of instruction was just right and the materials and choice of stones was wonderful. And, it was fun!!! Yay!
Wow! You should drop everything and read this article by Lynn Trimble in Southwest Contemporary Magazine. She sets forth the current situation with the arts in Arizona: dire (in terms of funding) with bright spots (a lively AZ art scene with talented and innovative artists; a new Executive Director at the AZ Commission on the Arts.) Plus! The first photo in the article is at The Millet House!
Arizona Commission on the Arts Gets a New Director—and a Major Blow to its Budget Artist Christina You-sun Park becomes director of Arizona Commission on the Arts—just as its state funding is slashed by sixty percent.
Belated Father's Day Post! You may not know this: The Millet House has volunteered with low-income and unhoused children and families for over 25 years -- in a DES-funded childcare center, at Pappas School for the Homeless, at The Millet House, and in recent years at Family Promise, a program for families transitioning out of homelessness. Some great art has emerged during these years. Please enjoy "My Dad," a work by Stephanie.
Please join us on this Saturday June 22nd! Toni Miller will be teaching us how to wrap cabochons with wire. We will be starting at 10:30 am. The cost is $15.00 all inclusive. Please RSVP by messaging the The Millet House so we can plan space for you. See you then!
What a great opportunity!

The Warrior Cats books went quickly, to a sweet grandma who will be reading them aloud to her grand! Even children who prefer graphic novels still love to be read to. Speaking of graphic novels, observe! Two Dog Man books! A dog may even have taken a bite of one of them. Hey and we have grownup books as well. Top shelf.
Andrea Rogers is at the Millet House today, to read from her latest story and to talk about art. Also, Bing cherries and cookies are being enjoyed!
Some lovely neighbor has contributed two different sets of Warrior Cats AND Star Wars books to the kid shelf in our Little Free Library! Thank you, whoever you are!

April 6 is the next Artists Salon, AND our Art Collective meeting, rescheduled from March 30 (word was also sent out by email, so if you aren't on the mailing list, and would like to be, please let us know!) The Salon is a time for us all to get together, paint, write, sew, or work on whatever we'd like to do. A time where we can be with people like our arty selves, share what we do and learn from each other.
This will be followed by an art collective meeting, and if you'd like to be involved in the planning and the running of our art events- we'd love to have you! We have workshops to plan, and shows coming up. Also we need your help.

February Art Salon !
The Millet House is partnering today with Family Tree Healthcare of Phoenix at the 22nd Annual African American Leadership and Legislative Youth Day hosted by the Arizona Commission of African American Affairs at the Arizona State Capitol.
Marva Harris, artist, storyteller and leader, is heading up today’s project with a collaborative art project inspired by the great African American artist Romare Beardon. We are asking teens what health and wellness is to them. They can make their voices heard through art.
Reminder! Hope to see you at The Millet House tomorrow, January 21 for our monthly Art Salon, from 1-4 pm! This is a time of art making – or, you can just hang out and enjoy being around peaceful, creative people. All are welcome. It will be a lovely Sunday afternoon.
Beginning at 2 pm, artists who exhibited in the Radiance show will be arriving to pick up their art. If you come early, you can see the art AND meet the artists!
The Radiance exhibit was quite successful. Many connections were made, and two of the paintings found new homes! And we sold out of our signature miniature, handmade sketchbooks as well as our "house" ornaments! Well done, artists.
The February Art Salon will be held on February 18, 1 to 4 pm. Come to make art, or come to hang out. We have snacks! In February we will be playing with air dry clay (bring some if you have some!) AND painting "pet rocks" and "remembrance rocks" for beloved pets.

Our Story
The historic adobe Millet House, located in Mesa, Arizona, holds an art gallery, a community gathering space, and a mobile library. Members of the Millet House Art Collective focus on a variety of types of art, from acrylic painting through carved indigenous masks through beaded bracelets, but much of our art has a Southwestern flavor. The Millet House has always served homeless/formerly homeless people, people with disabilities, and survivors of domestic abuse and violence, with outreach to shelters and to individuals through a peer mentoring program. Many members of the Millet House Art Collective come to us from such situations.
There are several ways to support us. We have a Patreon, at http://patreon.com/themillethouse and are hoping to find patron subscribers. (Be one of the first to sign up! This is brand new.) You can also visit our Etsy store (http://etsy.com/shop/themillethouse Or, of course, you can visit our gallery, meet our artists, and support their efforts.
These have been joined by a few established artists who have contributed one or more works to the gallery in order to underscore the fact that our artists are equally worthy in vision and talent. We avoid labeling individuals, but if you wish to know the story behind an individual work, we will share what the artist wishes to share.
Know that most of the money you spend here goes directly to the artists; a small percentage supports the Millet House and its outreach programs. That percentage is on a sliding scale and in the case of an artist who is currently homeless or in a shelter, all of the money goes to the artist.
That said, the Millet House does seek funding, as we approach a critical time in which we must find support, or be wildly successful with sales, or both. If you are aware of funding opportunities, please do let us know. Further, your purchases certainly will help us continue our work along with providing income, well-deserved respect and the promise of a better life to our artists - who are on their way up - so please let your networks know about us as the holidays approach! Our 501(c)3 is under the name of Floaters, from the Japanese word for "homeless": we sought a name that did not directly refer to homelessness.
And thank you!
